My internet package is 200mbps download and I'm only getting half that speed on 5ghz through R7000 router. Speed test directly from modem is getting the full speeds.

Network Mode: Mixed
Channel: 48
Channel width: 20mhz

If you have not already done so and if available, turn on CTF and FA. This greatly improves wireless speed on my R7000P. You need to reboot twice after doing this.

UP to 200Mbps you dont needs CTF & FA (this is for ISP speeds of 1 gigabit only) it will not help you at all.

CTF is for speeds over 200Mbps also, but it does imporve bridge performance.

Bridged interfaces under br0 the bridge performance is improved as a side effect you will likely never see true 1:1 speeds via wifi because the clients (mobile types) will only support max 2x2:2 streams which is a max of 867Mbps older mobile clients only have 1x1:1 stream your wifi settings router side matter.

You can try setting CTF only on Setup tab under `Shortcut Forwarding Engine` select CTF and under `Flow Acceleration` select CTF.

I suggest you read the built in router help pages under more... link on setup tab and read the relevant text for FTF and CFT & FA, there are caveats.

Really really you should just tweak your wifi settings to generally recommended optimal settings before you do anything else with CTF. It works very well here just that on equivalent router HW.

Hi. Wisp Installer here.

increase channel width to 40mhz. leave channel set to auto. That will allow you to receive 200mbps over wifi.

Ah, no don't do that unless you really know what you are doing. Seriously! Here's what you SHOULD do:

Get yourself an Android cell phone if you are one of those iphone geeks, and load a free app on it called WifiAnalyzer

Check out the existing wifi in the area. Walk around with the phone looking at the readout as wifi can change radically in a small area, sometimes.

Read a wifi article like this one

https://www.ekahau.com/blog/channel-planning-best-practices-for-better-wi-fi/

That explains what co-channel interference is, and why jacking up the channel width may lower throughput if your wifi signal is marginal.

DON'T be a bad neighbor and run 40Mhz channels on the 2.4 band unless you are out in the country and nobody else is running wifi in the area

DON'T be a bigger bad neighbor and select anything other than 1, 6 or 11 channel on the 2.4Ghz band if you see other wifi operating in the area. Auto SHOULD allow your radio to avoid this but sometimes it does not particularly if whoever setup the other wifi AP didn't do it right.

If you see people running at band 5 and 7 at 2.4Ghz (common in the city from people who don't understand wifi) and making a mess of interference on band 6, then use band 11 or 1 On most radios I've used Auto will select band 6 at 2.4Ghz even if band 1 or 11 would be cleaner.

When possible for highest throughput use 5Ghz, and set the channels you use to ones that nobody else is using, run 80Mhz channel widths, and move the AP as close as you can to your wifi client. You should have 5 bars on your client for best throughput.

I don't believe Apple brings out the primitives in iOS to even allow an app to be written that does everything that WifiAnalyzer does. The author of WifiAnalyzer has said this is why there's not a version for the iPhone.

You might consider posting a screenshot of the AirPort app to demonstrate what it can do.

I have a feeling that Xeon2k8 meant NetSpot app, which has been around for some time.

Also, there *is* a(nother) Wifi Analyzer app or iOS:

This is irelavent.

He is talking about trying to get 200mbps on the 5ghz band. Not 2.4ghz.

There is plenty of space on 5ghz. 2.4ghz should be used as a secondary radio nowadays anyway.

EDIT:Also, if anyone had looked at the channel the OP is using, they would have already known that he is using 5ghz.

So something interesting is happening when I did some tests. No matter what 5Ghz channel I choose, the speed was always slow.

When I select 'Auto' for the 5Ghz channel, 'Auto' always selects channel 52 and I get my full speeds. Not sure what's going on here?

Auto channel ignores channel width settings, so either set width, channel and extension properly or just use Auto.

I will add some more detail. Here are the following CAPACITIES, the keyword being "capacity, listed here for each channel width.

20mhz > 266mbps
40mhz > 433mbps
80mhz > 866mbps
160mbps > approx 1.7gbps unless otherwise specified.

I have "auto" set on my WRT32x (marvell unit) and it sticks to whatever channel width i tell it to stick to unless otherwise specified. I can also tell you that i had to press apply twice to get it actually working. AFAIK, maybe I got impatient.

As for the OPs router. While it is true that 20mhz channel width does have a capacity of 266mbps, that does not mean you will get exactly 266mbps at whatever device you are testing at. even if you are up close, you may get speeds of around 200mbps to 250mbps. In your case, its only going up to 128mbps.

Friendly reminder, 5ghz has PLENTY of channels. way more than 2.4ghz. It is why its best used in crowded places like apartment complexes.

Therefore, You will need to change the 5ghz channel width from 20mhz to 40mhz channel width and pick your favorite channel.
