If having any problems configuring DD-WRT SSH and WinSCP as described, use HFS instead with Telnet and wget.
HFS , adding a file, Telnet as root "cd /tmp" then wget http://your.pc.ip.address/venom.img

Possible, not recommended as nvram space is shared. Both partitions read and write settings to the same location.
Always perform hard reset, factory defaults or erase any previous environment configurations.
