Hi all! At-A-Loss and stumped.
I just bought a DreyTek 2865-lac and have this as my main router (VDSL) however I have a secondary router with VPN (Linksys 3200 dd-wrt). \For the life of me I am 100% stuck, I have searched, read and watched but cannot figure out how to allow the Dreytek router to allow the Linksys dd-wrt VPN router to connect to the DreyTek as a passthrough for VPN?
I had a Tplink prior to the DrayTek and it was simple enough to connect the VPN Linksys dd-wrt via Ethernet and configure, but trying to figure this DreyTek is causing a right old headache.
Should I first try and simply connect lan to lan with ethernet then attempt a passthrough? So many mixed messages on how to configure this router.

I don't use DrayTek.
But the typical solution would be to use Port-Forwarding (from DrayTex) to allow incoming VPN traffic to reach your Linksys, via Linksys's WAN IP address together with the specific port used in your Linksys' VPN settings.
From a quick search online, for DrayTek, it's called Port Redirection (under NAT heading).
It's assumed here that your Linksys (running DDWRT) is already working fine, with its WAN port connected to a DrayTek's LAN port. _________________ Life is a journey; travel alone makes it less enjoyable and lonely.

Why not just configure the Draytek as "full bridge mode" and use the Draytek as a simple modem?
Your suggestion would certainly be much simpler. Of course, the routing features of the DrayTek would be rendered inoperative in that case. _________________ Life is a journey; travel alone makes it less enjoyable and lonely.
Yes, all is running on the Linksys dd-wrt and VPN is also up.
What I have done is run ethernet from DreyTek lan to lan port on the Linksys.
I did try the DreyTek lan port to Linksys Wan port but did not get anywhere so I assumed I should carry on with lan to lan as this was the way I connected with the TPlink which Ive just changed.
No, what I have is my main DreyTek router and a second router which is the linksys dd-wrt that has the VPN installed.
The issue I'm having is that despite running a ethernet from the draytek to the linksys dd-wrt vpn, the draytek is not allowing the linksys through, thus, I am unable to connect devices to the vpn behind the draytek.

The Question was if this is an OpenVPN server or an OpenVPN client
An OpenVPN server is to connect from outside to your home network e.g. when you are on the road and want to connect to your home
An OpenVPN client is usually to a commercial provider and is used to safely browse the web.
If you are referring to an OpenVPN client, that should work right out of the box, your Draytek has nothing to do with that.
Some prerequisites:
-The Linksys is in default gateway mode and connected with its WAN port to the LAN of the Draytek.
-The clients are connected to the Linksys (for testing preferably with LAN).
-You are running a recent build, latest is 50012
First check if you have normal internet access before setting up a VPN.
If you do not have internet access then reset to defaults and check again, if you still not have internet access then change the Local IP address of the Linksys (on Setup page) from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.22.1
If you have internet then importing the OpenVPN configuration from your provider usually is enough to get going.
