Hi

Apologies in advance, I'm not an expert in this field...

I have a TP-Link ARCHER-C7 v2 and installed DD-WRT v3.0-r47618 std (11/05/21) on it.

My issue is almost only at the 2.4ghz network, where most of my smart home devices are. First, it kept dropping and reconnecting specific devices like the baby cam, but I assumed the camera had issues so we changed it.

In the past 1-2 months it keeps dropping google nest mini speakers, nest hub... as well. It came to the point that we cannot even listen to a song without disconnecting. It happens 20+ times a day.

I thought the issue is with one specific google speaker but now all gets disconnected. Other devices as well that we dont ever notice...

On this picture, I restarted the router about 2 days ago.

[/img]

5ghz works fine with decent speed... the phones and the laptops (on the 5ghz) don't seem to have many issues.

Please let me know if you have a y thoughts on what could cause the issue and if there is a solution.

I suspect 3 things...
-bad WiFi settings from your side (post a pic of your WiFi settings and advanced wifi settings page)
-update to a newer build...(on the last builds many security fixes too)...
-bad WiFi client, that jams the network....

Thanks a lot for the response! These are my wifi settings for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I stay in Singapore (hence the region).
Do you see anything settings that could be the issue?

How do I find which newer build is compatible with my router?

Try firmware type "Vanilla".

ACK timing at 90 defaults to 450. Too high is said to be better than too low.

Probably not an issue but try 900 or 1350.

As stated by others, update your router firmware, newest is 50012.

Use Mixed instead of N/G-Mixed, my solar panels would exhibit the same as you described with N/G mixed

There seems to be guidance that, Disassoc Low Ack & Noise Immunity should be disabled. I don't know if the wlan1 devices at the bottom of your list with the low SNR are the one dropping but it's worth watching the effects as well as re-orienting the antennas and lowering your power output (even though you put 30 when the max is 25 for your area i believe DDWRT will cap it at 25) and seeing the overall effect in case your current setting is causing signal distortion (in case it is outputting 30dbm but can't handle it). I also happen to have Short-GI and Short-Preamble disabled for Wifi 2.4 in case legacy/cheap devices can't handle it.

I had a similar problem and did the above and also slightly turned the antennas (because the router is in one corner of the house) and lowered the antennas (to reach the basement devices) made a big difference in SNR.

Please use the latest dd-wrt beta version, and reconfigure from scratch.

Nothing special but take care not to use the same SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz (from what I see, you don't), which is known to be problematic with google nest hardware.

Then please also factory reset your google nest hardware, which is known to solve disconnect issues.

Let us know.

off-topic: it's not so tedious to nvram erase and setup from scratch if you save all your current settings using this browser addon: Save Page WE for FireFox or Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge
Attached are extension config & sample pages.
Advanced users can create one txt file containing all dd-wrt webgui urls and tell Save Page WE to auto save all urls in that txt file with one single click.

EDIT: I'm not the author of that extension.

Thanks for the responses!
I have updated it to 50012 and changed the channels to Mixed. Factory reset 2 Google nest Minis and 1 Google Nest Hub Display.

Unfortunately, the issue still persists... for now I had a quick fix by joining the 5G network with the Google devices, but this will result sometimes Google telling me that XY device is not available instead.

I will observe for a few more days, but ultimately might be looking into getting a new router.

same issue with my Archer C7 v2 :
not used for a multiple years, updated from 41027/41057 to 49934, with complete reset and settings from scratch with the values that were ok before.
It was ok the last time I use it (and I kept a pdf page of the settings), now 2.4 Ghz clients can't access internet most of the time (phones, notebook) or very slowly. 5Ghz seems ok.
I just noticed it after 4 days running.

Settings :
N/G Mixed
ACK Timing 1800
Noise Immunity : Disabled now (I put enabled before)
Airtime Fairness : Disabled before, now Enabled by default (another thing to test)

New settings in 49934 (at least) :
Disassoc Low Ack : Set to "enabled" by default in 49934, not available in 41057. I'll try "disable" and see...
Airtime Policy : Disabled by default
Firmware type : currently I use "vanilla" (but it's not the issue here, cause firmware type option is only available for 5ghz in this router).

Disappeared settings :
Frame compression : disabled before

Not sure it's a fault from the router hardware ... Rolling Eyes

Meanwhile, I got a new router... but perhaps I have figured something. Did you recently increase the number of clients connected to the router? I think, I had too many (25+) devices connected. I know theoretically it should be possible, but it might have been the issue for me.

my DIR-868L has 20 devices in 5GHz and 20 devices in 2.4GHz which constantly send data to 5GHz devices, and I encounter frequent disconnections for 2.4GHz devices.
If there are only 10 devices in 2.4GHz, there's no issue.
I suspect saturation for my case, but I don't know how to confirm.
You can try experimenting with 5MHz channel width for your 2.4GHz network to see if it's better (if bandwidth is not your concern). My DIR-868L can't do that because it's a Broadcom.
EDIT: after rereading your 1st post, I see you have an IP cam. I suspect your situation can get worse (more devices disconnect) if you view the real-time stream of that IP camera.

No, I only have 6 devices (including 3 phones), all connected on 2.4Ghz (with 2 sub 2.4Ghz wireless lan), no greedy one.
I find something was wrong when trying to access web pages from the phones (connected on the main lan), impossible to access. Same on the 2 others phones... and very slow connection on the notebook, connected on a sub lan.
I did a internet performance test and no phone could reach the server... when in 2.4Ghz. In 5Ghz AC, no problem.

Then I restarted the router, and modified "Disassoc Low ACK" to disabled.
Maybe the "Airtime Fairness" is another parameter to play with.
At the moment it's ok, but will see in a couple of days if it's better.

I'm not sure my "clients" dropped, because dd-wrt indicated that they were connected since 4 days in the wireless page... but internet was very very slow or impossible to reach.
I didn't use that router since 3 years at the minimum, and under the 41027 (and maybe 41057) and even before, the situation was ok that's for sure.

If your WiFi network happens to be on the same channel as your neighbour's who has 20 devices connected then I suspect your WiFi network will also be affected.
Just my wild guess. I've been searching around but couldn't find anything helpful.
