I use Avast One (free edition) on my Windows 10 computer. Starting last week, Avast One blocked the update because it is on the URL Blacklist. I had to temporally disable Avast One to update the R7000P firmware. I sent feedback to Avast One about this.

Great, must be their version of filtering new URLs or something equally ignorant like Microsoft Defender Smartscreen.

Safely ignored... Nothing to see here.

Im not sure why you allow the Router IP to be snooped/scanned by 3rd party, but each to their own.

I upgrade router via CLI exclusively via SSH, bypassing 3rd party stupid.

The first thing to do to a brand new Windows PC is remove all signs of any 3rd-party Anti-virus solution because it's a waste of money, time, and slows the PC down. I wouldn't recommend Avast One or anything these days. Windows users haven't needed a 3rd-party solution since Windows XP + Microsoft Security Essentials.

It's blocking suspicious IP addresses, not the firmware itself. I believe the firmware was downloaded without issues? Also, it's uploading, so the virus-scanner worried about leaking data.

In general, 192.168.x.x are all valid private/local IPv4 addresses. IPv6 addresses will be a lot longer.

I wonder how IT departments handled this kind of blocking... Well... Wink

I just discovered Avast has an option to add a website as an exception. I added http://192.168.1.1 as an exception, and Avast now allows me to update the DD-WRT router firmware.

You might wanna remove it after the firmware upgrade, making it a temporary change. That restores the original function of the virus-scanner.

You can always add it again the next time now that you know.

Allowing 3rd party to scan and interfere with DD-WRT is not a good thing, so dont, there is nothing it can offer in real protection, or do but dont report bugs with them or caused by them, as the way to the exit will be swiftly shown.

It's better for him/her to find out whether the virus-scanner was merely blocking the upload or everything related to 192.168.1.1. Understood your concerns ... Smile

I don't use Avast but just Window$ Defender for Win 10.

To add on to my previous comment, Avast is known for FUD type alerts. It wants you to remove files to speed up your PC that you shouldn't, among other things. This isn't Windows 2000 or Me dayz anymore, folks. If you want "3rd Party A/V", then at least invest in something non-Microsoft and stop feeding the planned obsolescence machine.

I never thought anything was wrong with DD-WRT, but just to mention that Avast was blocking the installation and how I got around it by temporarily disabling it. PC Magazine rates Avast and Kaspersky as the two best freeware antivirus. Kaspersky was recently removed from the list because of political reasons.
