Hi.
I have problems with my WiFi connection.
I have WRT1900ACS v2 and Xiaomi redmi note 11 With MIUI 13 based on android 11 (ver V13.0.11.0.RGKEUXM).
I did some testing and figure out that the connection drops when the WPA group key handshake occur.
This is in my log (hostapd.log): wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx WPA: group key handshake failed (RSN) after 4 tries
I tried all the builds from last three month with different settings.
I wonder if someone faced the same problem and maybe find the solution?
Thx for reply.
My basic info are:
Linksys WRT1900ACS v2
Firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r49681 std (08/13/22)
Operating mode is in GATEWAY and WiFi in AP mode
This is in my log when error occurs:
hostapd: wlan1: STA d0:d0:03:xx:xx:xx WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN)
hostapd: wlan0: STA 8c:8d:28:xx:xx:xx WPA: group key handshake completed (RSN)
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx WPA: group key handshake failed (RSN) after 4 tries
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to local deauth request
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx MLME: auth request, signal -38 (Accepted)
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx IEEE 802.11: authenticated
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx MLME: assoc request, signal -37 (Accepted)
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx IEEE 802.11: associated (aid 1)
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx RADIUS: starting accounting session 435E9B93A1E46CFE
hostapd: wlan1: STA fc:02:96:xx:xx:xx WPA: pairwise key handshake completed (RSN)
I did the upgrade to the new fw and HW reset and then reconfigure the router...
THX

Thanks for that information, now we see what we are dealing with.
First I think you need to disable wpa2 personal with sha256, you wont find many clients that support that.
And unless you have clients which support WPA3 Personal / SAE, you can disable that also. I dont think your Redmi supports either sha256 or WPA3 by default, if you were running some 3rd party ROM with the patches, maybe and emphases on maybe..
I've tried al the possible combination of different Wireless settings but the phone still disconnects when group handshake occurs.
As a workaround i set the renew time to 24h (Key Renewal Interval -> 86400).
I think is a problem with Xiaomi(android) drivers. I'll wait for the next update of my phone.
Same issue here, for almost a year.
I have bought POCO F3 11 months ago and since then, no matter which ddwrt version(current firmware: DD-WRT v3.0-r49741 std) I have on my router, I have this problem.
Tried changing different settings, different channels, nothing helped.
Only temporary solution is to change Key Renewal Interval to zero, but I know what kind of issue that brings.

THX for the help.
Well, it could be the drivers, but they dont really update drivers that often. I also have a xiaomi and I exclusively use wpa2 AES only, no disconnect here, but like egc said auto-channel is also terrible. OK I have a Broadcom router, but actually worse since its closed source drivers.
Most Xiaomi will not support SHA-256 or WPA3 by default, only some few 3rd party roms will have patches to enable that support. Xiaomi will never enable the support even though its technically capable on some devices. Just look at their boards for various devices.
I also did some test with my ASUS RT-N18U and WRT54GL and have no problems. It is the Marvell and Xiaomi compatibility...In my opinion.
Xiaomi announced a new version of MIUI13 based on Android 12...waiting....

Well, Im waiting as well to see what happens but will need to wait here another 2 months minimum, after that I will be flashing LineageOS since that will be last MiUi/Android uptick for my xiaomi and while Ill miss some particular app, its not a great loss.s
