there are 6 physical ports on the back of the router.

ports 5,6 seem to share the same config as port 4. When i set up a vlan on physical port #4 that is isolated with its own dhcp server, both physical port 5 and 6 have the same properties and act the same as #4. same ip addressing

there is extra columns for 5 and 6 under the swtich config tab.

1. can i separate out 5 and 6 from 4?

2. how?

thanks

What buildnumber are you running?

A lot has changed regarding VLAN's in recent builds (not saying your problem is solved, it is possible that your described problem is inherent to the switch layout)

See the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:

No not by a long shot, current build is 49626

See: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=324087

Coming from such an old build a reset to defaults *after* upgrading is highly recommended.

Put settings in manually never restore from a backup (to a different build that is).

I am not saying your particular problem is over but at least a lot of security and other fixes are in place.

Like egc said, and your screenshots prove it, you are running a two year old build.

http://ftp.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2022/08-03-2022-r49626/ <- for current

after upgrade nvram reset and reconfigure from scratch and clear browser cache with CTRL+F5

All 6 ports are accounted for in nvram for both the R8000 and the R8500, but whether they are now accounted for on the switch config page, I can't say for sure as I have neither router available to check and don't have specific changes earmarked to pull out of a hat.

Administration -> Factory Defaults, actual hardware reset button on the back on the router, or via telnet / ssh 'nvram erase && reboot'.

they are, ive found the latest firmware..... and they are there.

the issue now is setting up a vlan on port 5 and 6. i had this working on the old firmware, but when entering the same config values in the new firmware it does not.

i have not loaded any backup configs. i entered everything again. i am wondering if the nvram needs reset? im not sure how to do that though?

I erased the nvram through ssh. and it appears all settings are again default.

my laptop is physically connected to port #1

but on the switch config tab ports 4 and 5 are lit green along with 1.

why is this? nothing is plugged into 4 and 5 currently.

sorry for the 100 questions.

all appears to be working properly now. i can setup a vlan on physical port 3 that is separate from all other ports and assigns ip address in the 172.168.30.x range to connecting devices.

but now when i use similar settings from port 3 to set up a a vlan on physical port 4. this works as well and it will assign ip addresses in the range of 172.168.40.x to connecting devices.

(note: i have 4 separate bridges setup for each vlan 3-6)

what i cannot figure out now is that ports 5 and 6 now exute the same properties as port 4. they do not follow the scheme i laid out to put port 5 on vlan 5 and assign ip addresses of 172.168.50.x it assigns an ip range the same as port 4.

same for port 6, it does the same as port 4 and 5.

is there something i need to do via ssh to separate out 5 and 6 so that they do now use port 4 settings?

thanks

pic shows current config
