Hello,
Followed this guide to setup a tl-wr841n v7 as client router https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode_Wireless When connecting a desktop directly over one of its LAN ports, it works. But when connecting to the WAN port of the second router tl-wr841n v8, the v8 doesn't acquire WAN IP address. Both have r49492 installed. I would like to use the v8 as a WDS AP as well. The primary host router is a tl-wr940n v3 with stock firmware and a local IP address 192.168.0.1 which is set as a gateway address on the client router. The client has 192.168.1.13 as its router local IP and the v8 local IP is 192.168.1.14. Tried changing operation mode in advanced routing from gateway to router on the v8 but it doesn't seem to help, although I prefer NAT to work on both routers.

I am not entirely sure as to what you want to do.
The v7 is in client mode and working
Are yo connecting the v8 behind the v7 so with v7 LAN <> v8 WAN?

As it looks like all routers are having their own subnet use for the V7 192.168.1.1/24 and for the V8 192.168.2.1/24 (and your main router has 192.168.0.1/24)

Yes, that's what I'm trying to do. Both of them should be creating their own subnets, right?
The v7, configured as it is, uses the wlan0 interface as WAN interface and has active NAT and firewall between the WAN and the LAN ports. That is, if I understood the wiki page correctly. It has active DHCP and DNS servers which seem to be working, at least with a client device - desktop with MX Linux, but the v8 doesn't get assigned an IP address for its ethernet WAN port. There might be other problems I'm not aware of but that's the only thing I can see for now.
Thank you for your replies, egc and ho1Aetoo. As you both advised, I changed the local addresses to these:
tl-wr841n v7 192.168.1.13
tl-wr841n v8 192.168.2.14
But still the v8 does not get assigned an IP address for its WAN port. Tried to set a static IP for the WAN connection type, within the range of the v7's DHCP server - 192.168.1.150. The v8 displays an established WAN connection in the status page then, with uptime counting but still no internet access from v8's LAN. Also the NTP server does not get resolved from v7.
There were no problems with v8's DHCP client being assigned an address and autoresolving the NTP server from wr941n v3.
Just had to select a region for NTP.
A diagram of the topology would probably make things clearer here. I presume the TL-WR940Nv3 is the main router / AP. Do both TL-WR841Ns connect wirelessly to the TL-WR940Nv3 or is one connected wired and the other wireless? tl-wr940n v3 is the main router, connects to ISP network trough its ethernet WAN port. wr841n v7 is configured in client router mode https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode_Wireless it connects to wr940n wirelessly (wlan0 is the WAN interface). No problems so far. Then one end of a TP cable is connected to one of the LAN ports of wr841n v7 and the other end to wr841n v8 WAN port. End client devices don't have internet access when connected to wr841n v8 via wlan or ethernet. There must be some misconfiguration on v8.
TL-WR841Nv8 should be in gateway mode, WAN port set to DHCP auto configuration, and the local IP should be in a separate subnet as already described in previous comments. You shouldn't have to input any gateway or local DNS IP addresses. All clients connecting to the TL-WR841Nv8 should be using DHCP, no static IP addresses. Optionally, you could set up the TL-WR841Nv8 as a wired access point on the same subnet as the TL-WR841Nv7 and let the TL-WR841Nv7 do all the dirty work. If the TL-WR841Nv7 and it's immediate clients on the ethernet ports have Internet, then there is no issue there.
