Please consider upgrading to the current release. There is no solution in trying to troubleshoot a nearly 3-year-old firmware version that may have the issue fixed in current releases.
I was worried about doing that and loosing all my current settings,
then not knowing how to set them back ( adding the certificates Etc) for my VPN on the router...

The VPN settings on that old of a build may or may not apply to current releases, anyway. You don't necessarily have to do a hard reset or reset of any kind to upgrade. It is only necessary if things go even more awry after upgrading, although it is recommended for that far of a jump in releases to do at least one hard reset. You can save your settings several ways for reference, if that would make you more comfortable. There are plenty of knowledgeable people here who can help you out if you run into a problem. In any case, there is no way to address your issue without any amplifying information and I guarantee you others will tell you to upgrade first as well. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"
