Linksys EA8500...main gateway router
DD-WRT v3.0-r49212 std (06/16/22)
Linux 4.9.318 #1023 SMP Thu Jun 16 03:42:52 +07 2022 armv7l
GUI install over r49197
new EA8500 got 'bout 12 hrs ago but you can say --- NO ain't been reset in long long time cause
I used backup from my other EA8500 which hasn't been reset in very long while.
This one has the newer board with NO serial header pins...I worked around that also.
Me being who I am just held wires in place and let it DD-WRT install on both parts...a bit tricky but is doable.
Since I had a bit of argument a while back 'bout the PL2303HX USB to TTL RS232 not working with WIN10 I done it all on the WIN10 machine.
Yeahuh, my Debian machines have builtin drivers for the PL2303HX cause the oldass USB TTL adapter is very standard.
Anyways I used the WIN10 machine just to make a point --- all still works exactly as described on my site.
Installed PL2303 driver from 'Profilic_Win8_x64_x86.zip' as desribed on my site & used everything from 'PuTTy-TFTP.zip' from there also.
On the board the serial pinout 'ground' was somewhat clean so I used cut paperclip stuck in it attached to adapter.
Shaved TX & RX on adapter to bare wires, held with a finger over correct serial pin places, done all keyboard / mouse stuff one-handed.
Worked like a charm...installed them old Kong builds to both parts then updated to r49197, factory reset, used backup from other router, and then GUI installed r49212.
worky very good ... uptime ---> 5:35
---
EDIT:
WIN10 machine I used --->
last & only windowsy box I have
very nice to have 2 EA8500 in their rightful places and one is new ...
yea they are both getting a bit old but my new one is 'bout 7 months younger than my original EA8500
Hello,
I like to rake up some info I posted in some older thread concerning DIR-825b.
Since all FW-releases newer than 48646 the WLan-LEDs are flashing all about three times per second. That has nothing to do with traffic! No matter wether I udate with or w/o reset. I know some say that's cosmetic effect, no technical issue.
Anyway, is there any chance to correct that. My family doesn't accept these blue flashing LEDs in the living room and in the kitchen anymore. So in the moment the only options are to take the AP away or to cover the LEDs with a sticker. Both are not really solutions of the problem.
Thanks in advance

When you change settings services restart and depending on what you change the whole router can even reboot.
