hey guys, i’m on dd-wrt v3 build 40559 and i need to revert to original.
now i downloaded several times the ”Webrevert to Stock” and tried using Firmware Update option in web interface- nothing. The progress bar can go for hours, nothing is changing.
Interesting note: If i try firmware update and try a newer build - it still does nothing. So is Factory Reset from web gui.
The router itself works great, but i need it back to stock.

Please explain why you need to revert to stock and why are you running such an old dd-wrt build.
Could be whatever issues you are trying to resolve been solved in current dd-wrt builds. If you decide to stick with dd-wrt and move to a current supported build consider.
You would need to do a nvram reset and reconfigure from scratch since your dd-wrt fw version is so old that newer dd-wrt are significantly different.
There is no such version 2.5 of your router, so your router is either v2 or not.
While you are welcome to revert to stock without giving any reason, there are many reasons why you should not consider stock firmware.
I would be remiss if I did not mention these facts and possibilities to anyone considering these moves.
* Outdated kernels used in stock firmware
* Outdated libraries and 3rd party components
* Many security issues present in the above points unpatched this equals exploitable areas easy targets for bad actors.
* Outdated drivers.
* Last stock firmware for you device is dated 2010-09-10
* EOL device.
These eventualities are possible: By making it easy for bad actors to permanently infiltrate your router and all networked devices attached by using commonly known exploits unpatched in stock firmware, the possibility of having permanent malware which cannot be removed even by resets as well as becoming part a botnet node. Your networked devices can also then be accessible and exploited by bad actors when they gain access to your router.
In contrast DD-WRT has updated kernels, drivers, libraries and 3rd party components, all known security issues patched and rolling support for more patches across these areas.
While security is never guaranteed in any case, one should take reasonable steps to ensure that no easy target is presented to these bad actors.
If you do decide to return to stock, consider TFTP method or known recovery methods for your router in order to flash stock firmware.

thank for a detailed reply. the reason i want to revert to stock is to experiment woth WDS as the original firmware allows this at a much easier lever for user, at least from the info that i found.
but anyway- i can’t do this.

It could be that 40559 webupgrade is broken, in which case you may have to flash a newer version of DD-WRT and revert or try CLI flash from 40559 with webrevert file. OR, do the normal TFTP back to stock.

I would be looking for dd-wrt at its latest and grabbing better info dd-wrt related from forums re: WDS and asking questions about the parts that there are doubts about.
It's your network and your security which is moot even your dd-wrt version you're running now has known unpatched security exploits, but less exploits than stock firmware still. I personally prefer the lesser attack surface.

@servicetech: you are using an older build; wget ftp support is not enabled in current releases AFAIK, but wget http (not https) support is still functional. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Good to know, OP is using build 40559 then both should work as long he has DNS / Internet Access working on his shell?
