So now the snmpd.conf file is in /tmp
But if file doesn't exist, its still not one click apply solution.

idk whats going on now

It also takes two applies to disable service if file exists
If file exists its also two click apply to start service
If file doesn't exist its around 3 to 4 applies, waiting 15 seconds between to ensure router has time to create file.

Command line its instant to start or stop service assuming file exists.

If file doesn't exist, you enable snmp, apply, then in terminal start service = two applies?

Im sure both me and BS are pulling hairs out. I know I am.

I checked svn when I got up today and saw that. It does seem like an odd problem. Were you able to see if it was only on MVEBU units?
You can ask me COBOL questions, that's about it for me and programming LOL!
Didn't mean to have you both pulling hairs out, if I can provide any more info let me know.
Thanks to you and BS again!

I dont have marvel anything, the issue is global it affects all platforms until proven otherwise.

Regarding info, you can only duplicate the issues and confirm they apply or not for you.

The rest is out of our hands.

Problem is Brainslayer when testing these things, more often than not cant find the issue and not surprisingly so, if he cant find an issue to fix he wont, but sometimes like now, the code wasn't optimal and still isnt.

Now since the conf file is in /tmp folder, anytime you reboot, it likely doesnt get recreated, (needs testing a job for you?) if the file doesnt exist service wont run and to create file it takes several applies.

Tor is also in the same boat likely other services. Ive made a more detailed observation in https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1262643#1262643

New build out 48886 with the changes I mentioned, please test and confirm any issues individually as I noted on the post linked below.

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=1262638#1262638

Each issue confirmed individually will help determine there is more to it than just my router and the way I duplicated the bug, since BS miraculously everything works without hiccups.

Thanks.

I just read that, I do have serial accesses if needed.

I am upgrading now, had to wait until I updated everything else here. I will report soon..

After upgrading I now have this:

Code:
root@3200_ACM:~# ps | grep snmp
 2662 root      2880 S    snmpd -c /tmp/snmpd.conf
 2677 root      1408 S    {wl_snmpd.sh} /bin/sh /etc/wl_snmpd.sh
 2969 root      1396 R    grep snmp

Running snmpwalk, it is now responding (so far anyway).

Code:
pi@CamMonitorPi:~ $ snmpwalk -c public -v 1 192.168.1.1
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.1.0 = STRING: "Linux 3200_ACM 4.9.313 #3209 SMP Mon May 16 04:04:33 +07 2022 armv7l"
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0 = OID: iso.3.6.1.4.1.8072.3.2.10
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0 = Timeticks: (164996) 0:27:29.96
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.4.0 = STRING: "root"
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.5.0 = STRING: "3200ACM"
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.6.0 = STRING: "3200ACM"
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.7.0 = INTEGER: 9
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.8.0 = Timeticks: (0) 0:00:00.00
iso.3.6.1.2.1.1.9.1.2.1 = OID: iso.3.6.1.2.1.4

etc. etc.

Also, getting parts (not all) of the graphs working again on Cacti.

Waiting a bit, to reboot it to see if it still works.

My apologies, I was so anxious to try it out, that I did not read the rest of your last post. I will report there.

Edit: Now I feel stupid, which link? You are dealing with a disabled person here. When I go to the link, it brings me back here.. If that is on purpose Laughing Laughing

The link is to this thread, my post with the steps and issues I found when testing, If you can confirm those issues and steps in your reply here, that would be nice to show, its not just me or my router.

Brainslayer can then see the issue as not a single case or single platform.

Problem is the double (or more) click(s) Apply to start specific services affects also TOR, not just SNMP. (I didnt test all the services but I suspect there are others and not all have these issues.)

Im also interested how you find the new SNMP version 5.9.1 now with dd-wrt 48886 as opposed to 5.8 before in addition to the steps on my post.

Will keep an eye on it, even though I dont use SNMP or care about it either way, still, what can I say.

I got you, here is what I have done.

After upgrading, no reset, without touching any settings, so SNMP was already enabled I got (as I put in the earlier post):

[code}root@3200_ACM:~# ps | grep snmp
2662 root 2880 S snmpd -c /tmp/snmpd.conf
2677 root 1408 S {wl_snmpd.sh} /bin/sh /etc/wl_snmpd.sh
2969 root 1396 R grep snmp[/code]

Which is when it started answering to snmpwalk.

Immediately after rebooting (20 seconds or so)I get this:

Code:

root@3200_ACM:~# ps | grep snmp
 2578 root      2624 S    snmpd -c /tmp/snmpd.conf
 2616 root      1396 S    grep snmp

After about a minute I get what I had right after I upgraded:

[code}root@3200_ACM:~# ps | grep snmp
2662 root 2880 S snmpd -c /tmp/snmpd.conf
2677 root 1408 S {wl_snmpd.sh} /bin/sh /etc/wl_snmpd.sh
2969 root 1396 R grep snmp[/code]

snmpwalk working fine.

Disabling SNMP and hitting apply:
Code:

root@3200_ACM:~# ps | grep snmp
 4991 root      1396 S    grep snmp

Enabling SNMP and hitting apply:

Code:

root@3200_ACM:~# ps | grep snmp
 2578 root      2624 S    snmpd -c /tmp/snmpd.conf
 2616 root      1396 S    grep snmp

snmpwalk working, after about 5-7 minutes it shows this and snmpwalk still works:

Code:
root@3200_ACM:~# ps | grep snmp
 2662 root      2880 S    snmpd -c /tmp/snmpd.conf
 2677 root      1408 S    {wl_snmpd.sh} /bin/sh /etc/wl_snmpd.sh
 2969 root      1396 R    grep snmp

I am not a programmer, so I am not sure what the "{wl_snmpd.sh} /bin/sh" is, or does, or why it takes so long to show up if it is supposed to a lot earlier.

I can disable, and enable it with just hitting the apply button once now. I hope this helps, I am getting the info into cacti again. (Picture attached)

I'm going to update the 1900 to hopefully get it working for it also.
(I do have a theory, as to possibly why it stopped working . But, give me a few days to see if Cacti will act the way it did when SNMP was borked)

Thanks to you and BS again, if you need more info let me know.

IS this start stop instant or if not how long does it take?

Also did you tested disabling snmp, stopping service, removing the snmpd.conf and ensuring its all stooped and file doesnt exist. Then enabling snmp, reconfigure, apply, and see if the service starts (starting asif from fresh never used snmp before type thing), how many applies does it take?

It was almost instant

Disabled SNMP

Service still running using top | grep snmp
I enter service stop snmp, it goes right to the next prompt like it succeeded, but it is still running. Tried killing the pid also, and top still shows it running. Am I losing it, or not?

Okay here we go.

Disabled SNMP in UI, made sure the service was stopped, deleted the snmp.conf in /tmp:

Code:
root@3200_ACM:/tmp# rm snmpd.conf
root@3200_ACM:/tmp# ls
TZ                eap_identities    oet               udhcpc.expires
ath10k-board.bin  etc               resolv.conf       var
board1.bin        hosts             resolv.dnsmasq    wlan0_configured
bw.db             igmpproxy.conf    root              wlan1_configured
cron.d            loginprompt       services          wlan2_configured
crontab           mnt               snmp-persist      www
dnsmasq.conf      nvram             snmp_cache
dnsmasq.leases    nvstate           udhcpc

*not sure what snmp-persist is.

Go to web UI, enable SNMP, hit apply once and the file is created. And starts responding to snmpwalk right away.

I will try doing this, disable, remove config, reboot...

Disabled, removed config, rebooted:

Code:
root@3200_ACM:/tmp# ls
TZ                dnsmasq.leases    nvram             udhcpc
ath10k-board.bin  eap_identities    nvstate           udhcpc.expires
board1.bin        etc               oet               var
bw.db             hosts             resolv.conf       wlan0_configured
cron.d            igmpproxy.conf    resolv.dnsmasq    wlan1_configured
crontab           loginprompt       root              wlan2_configured
dnsmasq.conf      mnt               services          www

* no snmp-persists or snmp_cache

Enable SNMP, hit apply once:

Code:
root@3200_ACM:/tmp# ls
TZ                eap_identities    oet               udhcpc
ath10k-board.bin  etc               resolv.conf       udhcpc.expires
board1.bin        hosts             resolv.dnsmasq    var
bw.db             igmpproxy.conf    root              wlan0_configured
cron.d            loginprompt       services          wlan1_configured
crontab           mnt               snmp-persist      wlan2_configured
dnsmasq.conf      nvram             snmp_cache        www
dnsmasq.leases    nvstate           snmpd.conf

Config created, as is snmp-persist, and snmp-cache after a bit. But responding to snmpwalk immediately after hitting apply.

Also rebooted to see if the file stays in the /tmp , it does get recreated upon boot.

This any help. Or should I just move into a mountain cave, and wonder what could have been? Laughing Laughing
