Hello,

As in the french forum it is not possible to ask questions I come Here but I don't know If it is the good place.

I am far from to be an expert and I am a bit lost in all the explanation I can find on the different DD-WRT pages.

I was afraid after seeing that I saw I must not use the router database after downloading files !!!

My goal : install a HOTSPOTSHIELD VPN on my ARCHER C7
Pre-requisite : install DD-WRT on my ARCHER C7 version 5.0 with Chipset QUALCOMM QCA9558 dual band three stream.

My problem(s) :
- I cannot find a specific subforum for QUALCOMM
- I don't know which firmware to download

I am really lost and I wonder if somebody want to help me [It seems so simple for most of people on this forum].
I am able to do the job but I need the explanations above mentioned.

Regards
Marc

Qualcomm is Atheros and vice versa. I've prompted the moderators to move this to the correct forum.

I didn't know and could not find by myself, maybe I have not (well) read the right pages.

@kernelpanic69,

On the download link I can find two files :

factory-to-ddwrt.bin 06-May-2022 04:37 14029019
tplink_archer-c7-v5.bin 06-May-2022 04:37 14241820

On the installation guide it is indicated to use the factory-to-ddwrt file.
When do I use the tplink_archer-c7-v5 ?

When you upgrade (or downgrade) the version of DD-WRT installed, just like it mentions in the device wiki.

In order to do not make mistakes here is where I am:
- in order to have internet in my home ans apparatuses, I have used my internet provider box; it is under 192.168.0.1
- my TP-Link router is connected to it (IP 192.168.0.15)
- my TP-link has been reset to the factory parameters
I am connected to my TP-link with IP 192.168.1.1

Now I do not understand the guide; it is written :
- Download the factory-to-ddwrt file; OK I have done
- Navigate to the DD-WRT Default WebUI IP: 192.168.1.1 (you will be asked to set a new router username & password); I do not understand. I am still with my TP-link Archer c7 and its default values !

It seems that I must download the file "factory-to-ddwrt file" in the Archer C7 ???
And then, how can I do ?

Do I have to go in "advanced configuration" tab, "System configuration" menu, "Software update" submenu and "Manual update" paragraph ?

Sorry, I am a little bit lost !

Your stock firmware webUI IP is 192.168.0.1 unless you or the firmware automagically changed it. On the manual upgrade page in stock firmware, it should allow you to select a file to upload to the router. Select the factory-to-ddwrt.bin file and the rest should be straightforward. Once it's flashed and rebooted and you've connected to the default DD-WRT IP of 192.168.1.1, it will prompt for a password change. Keep in mind that there are three entry boxes; user, password, confirm password. I generally only change the password and confirm it. Default username in DD-WRT is root. Sorry that this is so confusing for you.

Hello,

The tplink to ddwrt firmware change was suxccessful !

Thanks.

But now there somany things to set that I do not know how to do ! (much more that in the TP-Link firmware or in my internet provider box).

I tried to see the numerous files in the dd-wrt main page but quickly I must login and I cannot login with the forum data.
And when I want to register it does not propose other thing that "login" !!!

ThenI have two questions :
- how to register on dd-wrt main site ?
- does it exist a sample of a configuration

(there are so many pages!), knowing that this time I want to keep my internet provides router and the dd-wrt one.
The dd-wrt will display wi-fi through VPN.

@kernel-panic 69 : do not be sorry because I am confused ! I just try to do something what I am not used to !

Sorry for this stupid question, but why do you need to login into the dd-wrt site?

Did you mean perhaps login into your router?

If it is, login into your router, when you reset/flashed dd-wrt on the the router and it offers you the web interface on 192.168.1.1, you must setup on first run, the user name and a new password for your router. Please use something new and unique, do not use the forum login data.

I see you are confused, it OK take it slow.

Take screenshots and share them here.

Following the above, this is not the case.
I succeed to connect to my dd-wrt router.

Now I have to receive a reply to my second question :
- does it exist a sample of a dd-wrt configuration ?

For that I will precise on a following reply.

You dont need to login to the wiki to read any of its contents, only if you want to edit, and wiki accounts are not open to registration you need to ask permission from the only person who has access, but since you dont need to edit anything, you shouldn't be getting any issues to read any given existing tutorial or page.

If the link for a page in wiki is in red, it doesn't exist at all.

Besides the wiki is outdated in some places, a lot actually. Especially I doubt other languages but english probably worse in terms of relevant applicable data.

I dont think there are sample configurations, I mean, by default the router should just work for most basic networks, and a sample configuration is a sample it may not suit your needs.

I think its time for you ask for help with specific portions that you are having trouble with. For that you need to ask specific questions.

Now, our forums are filled to the brim with how-tos in advanced networking subforums and more common setups how-tos, if you cant find what you need on these boards, you arent looking hard enough, or if dont understand a particular portion, then just ask.

To get most content in french from out wiki use https://forum-dd--wrt-com.translate.goog/wiki/index.php/Main_Page?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=fr&_x_tr_hl=en&_x_tr_pto=wapp

The only porblem with that is it translates everything, including nvram commands, so when in doubt ask you read the English pages directly.

The french language direct link on our wiki is impossibly outdated. Use the link above.

@the-joker,

Thank for the time taken for the reply and the reply itself.

Probably I didn't search enough, but in a language different from my mother language, sometimes it is difficult to understand something which is not our specialty.
But, I will make an effort.
Your time is precious and I will try to waste as little of it as possible!

Your right. I have prepared some. I will read a lot more and come back to you.
