But you completely removed the referenced context. Would've been better to quote / link the other threads IMHO. But what is done is done Rolling Eyes

what would be the best way to upload my config, i think a few replies back someone said i should post my config so that everyone can point and mock as i fail to see some sort of loop i've created.

would it just be screen shots of the config/DNS/admin pages in DD-WRT?

atm i've reverted so that my router isn't pegged.

i tried a few configs here verbatim and it maxes out the CPU/loops or whatever every time

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=331414

my config from lan cahce shows that i'm not pointing back to dd-wrt router for upstream dns.

see attachment

unless it has something to virtualization but, the VM has it's own IP address so i wouldn't think that would cause a loop. i think who ever suggest a loop makes the most sense, it does kind of remind me of a broadcast storm the way the dd-wrt peg out the CPU. is there a way to capture a log when it's doing it?

IF you want to share your config, the best way would be to open a terminal connection to router via SSH, login, then issue the command nvram show > /tmp/someconfigname-id.txt then grab that file to your desktop via scp/sftp or whatever.

Then edit the text file, remove sensitive information like passwords and MAC addresses, leave the rest save, and attach that file to your next reply.

As an aside observation, using an upstream DNS resolver is unwise, from a security point of view you have zero control and have no idea what hey are doing with your DNS requests after the fact.

OK granted using 1.0.0.1 and 9.9.9.9 are not much better alternatives and I wouldnt trust googles DNS anyway, but then there is PIhole which would likely be more suitable and under your control.

All and all, users will find the most unique ways to shoot themselves in the foot and that's OK, its not my foot.

I have already answered this question on page 1 of the thread but it is too much to ask the OP to read his own thread.

btw i will not work through any nvram variables

Everything that this "lancache" provides can be configured directly in DD-WRT or your own local dns caching machine without some script kiddie third party crap. You can even use windows registry hacks at your own risk. I still host LAN parties from time to time with zero internet connection using client machines that are still using GameSpy3D and GameLaunch3D front end programs. Simply because I am privy to the registration server bits before all that was shut down by IGN because of my relationships with the programmers who made those programs. Anyhow, the solution has been given multiple times in this thread and elsewhere to how to configure DD-WRT and this is not the lancache forum, so we cannot provide you any solution on mis-configuration there.

could you help with understanding how to do logging and finding out what is using my CPU usage?

You can enable terminal access to router and use `top` to see which PID is sucking CPU time.
