When we configure our dd-wrt router to use a static connection for the WAN, any wired, static IP configured device becomes unable to resolve any addresses. However, extra-net IP addresses can be pinged, including the service provider's gateway and dns servers (such as 8.8.8.8). Any other device with a DCHP served IP works as one would expect.
When the WAN connection type is configured to DHCP. All devices work properly, except for the fact our servers can no longer be reached from outside.
We've had the WAN connection type configuration with static IP address running for some time. A few days ago, we had some service issues. In trying to solve the service issues, we probably toggled something. We are at a loss as to where the configuration problem is.
Note: When we switch the WAN connection between static and dhcp and back again, no other configuration change is made.
Under Network setup the Gateway and Local DNS should be kept at default 0.0.0.0!
If this is a router connected to the internet usually automatic dhcp should work.
Perhaps you have a fixed address but what you now have set is wrong.
It could be something like:
50.68.192.148
But you should ask your vpn provider.
Normally you cannot freely choose your own wan address.
Furthermore you are running a very old and no longer supported build.
Upgrading is highly recommended.
Coming from such an ancient build resetting to defaults *after* upgrade is necessary and you have to put in settings manually, never restore from a backup (to a different build) so make screenshots first.

Question: can a nvram dump be used to restore the configuration for an upgraded version of dd-wrt (from/to same device)
Not advisable coming from such an old build; I suggest you do a reset after you have flashed your router because of all of the nvram changes and addition of swconfig support. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"
