I have a TL-WR1043ND ver.2 that has been running r47040 since its release as a WDS Station and working perfectly. Just the other day it failed during moderate to heavy use. A closer look and the router appeared to be in a boot loop. A REBOOT and later A RESET has not changed anything. TFTP into rescue mode fails as well. With a serial connector and Putty confirms it is in about a 14 second boot loop and reboot. All efforts to TPL into the putty terminal window fail as well. RX appears to work fine and if I jump across TX/RX on the serial converter ( CH340G ) I can type into the Putty window on the keyboard. Also, the reset button does not appear to work at all. Since it did not brick during a bad flash and failed during a heavy workload is it possible it just burned up something and not recoverable or is there another way to access it and reflash ? I can provide some screen shots of putty if that helps.

yep serial log output will be telling a story..

about tpl+enter you must be very quick and persistent...

read : Flashing / Recovery using the serial console for v2...
https://openwrt.org/toh/tp-link/tl-wr1043nd

calculate/replace with the ddwrt factory size as well web flash size when using those serial commands...
use factory-to-ddwrt file to serial recover...

Spent about another hour trying to TFTP and Putty to no avail. I`ve done this before on a WR841 and never had a problem. I believe this is complete before it reboots again.

Someone correct me if I`m wrong, but inside the putty window I thought I should find the ip and file name the router is looking for. I have used this in the past to rename my recovery file ? I`m not seeing it anywhere.

Wireshark or TFTPD32/64 will show that info in the log.

The only thing that shows up in the TFTP log is that the message has been truncated.

OK, I followed your steps but I still have a few questions. You say it must be listening at 192.168.1.100:69. What is "100:69" ? It only accepts 3 digits. I tried 100 and several others down to 69 with still no luck. Also previous in your post you speak about stripping the file for size. I have no idea how to using an editor. But I have been trying 3 different files, Factory to DDWRT, TP Link factory firmware, both renamed and a stripped factory firmware I found on OpenWRT. None worked. I have yet to see anything show up in the log viewer or box on TFTP. I think something fried with my LAN I`m no expert on log files but " *** Warning *** : PCIe WLAN Module not found !!!" keep showing up in putty and I don`t see that on your log of your WR1043. I think it quit communicating thru the LANs. What thinks you ???

As im not doing serial that often, usually TFTP works instead, if i remember correctly :69 is port number, so set it in tftp client
As well, in my case, my router was bricked due to a bad flash and there are numerous cases, that may need serial flash, so in your case, it could be due to a radio is not working...and if radio module is dead DDWRT firmware will not boot up...and this could be the case of yours..

So, if you made it to serial update and it is successful procedure, and than your unit is not booting and showing the same output...it may be dead due to hardware failure ...

Well, I was ready to write this off as a loss due to hardware failure but now I`m not so sure. When running Wireshark and listening only to the port the router is connected to I see quite a bit of traffic. More or less like Putty it just keeps repeating, but there is life there. Now what ?
