So, I was wondering what would be the best firmware for a good ol' DIr-615 C1? Been trying the one on the website and I tried the last beta one you can find on the FTP server (I think it was March 23'rd) but... both of them make that my speed is unstable, specially with live streaming (it will stutter and lag a lot). I tried OPENwrt to test and I don't have the issue with it, but I would very much try to go back with DDwrt as OPENwrt interface kinda sucks (very much less user fiendly) and there's other weird issues like where I can't start the Wifi service (nothing will save), but, anywhoo, yeah; what would be the best firmware for it?! Thanks!

I did a forum search, no one reports on this old hardware DIR-615 C1 (wikidevi) so it is up to you for testing.

New Build - 03/23/2022 - r48567 -> New Build - 04/08/2022 - r48607 -> New Build - 04/12/2022 - r48646

Recommended: R7800 (XR450/XR500), R7500v2, EA8500 (serial flash), R9000 (R8900/XR700), x86 (J4125).

I have a bunch of C1 and E3s but they are currently all stored. The last time I went to upgrade a C1, it bricked. I had to recover via the hidden D-Link Emergency Room and Firefox Portable 13.

Be very careful with maximum upgrade file size with these routers. Check each and every time you upgrade. A bunch of releases the upgrade file is too large, a bunch of other releases the factory file is too large.

Ford Pinto ≠ Ferrari 308 GTS. A 400MHz single-core MIPS cpu with 4MB flash and 32MB RAM is going to stutter and lag some, especially if your configs are wrong. X2 on firmware image sizes. Current release looks to be good, but the only way to know for sure is to check via CLI flash.

Yes, I forgot. This is one of the few routers that almost requires a CLI flash every time. The GUI's update screen can be broken in some if not most builds.

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Telnet/SSH_and_the_Command_Line

Do not expect this router to be able to handle a lot, if any, QoS rules, etc. Forgot about doing a VPN on it.

Well, even without anything configured (default settings), the recent firmware's are a bit unstable and will stutter while watching streams, like on Twitch, or sometimes with Discord Screenshare too. Reverted back to stock firmware of it and all seems fine & no stutter on streams. I'm at loss to what I can do now.

Not knowing what settings you were working with in DD-WRT, we can't drop any gem nuggets for you. Considering the hardware in question, I would consider finding something with a little more horsepower under the hood.

Nothing; the only thing I've configured once I flashed the firmware last time was to disable Wifi and...that it's.
