It's a new-to-me Netgear R7000.

Flashed the r47925 .chk file successfully.

Boots up and asks for new login username/password

Shortly after saving that change the web gui stops responding.

It's still responding to ping, still broadcasting the SSID, so it's not completely bricked. I can use the web GUI to start to flash an older .bin release, but the GUI crashes about 10 seconds into that, and the load doesn't complete.

I can also get a telnet login prompt during the same time, but usual login defaults don't work, and that also stops working when the web GUI stops working.

So it looks like I'm trying to tftp another build, but what build is safe?

47925 didn't have any webUI issues reported. Since this is an initial flash, did you do a full hard reset after flashing DD-WRT first, or just proceed without?

Are you certifying that this build does not have the problem I mentioned on the R7000? The chk build I installed was from December 2021, so 2/11/22 is not much newer.

I did a hard reset, causing it to prompt for admin user/password again, and the problem returned just the same.

It's not just a webUI issue - it's an ANY UI issue. Telnet stops working at the same time the web UI stops working.

Bonafide certified thundercougarfalconbirdified if want to be super cautious see a previous build r48305.

Some portable browsers for Windows, if needs Linux or macOS installers then see links below portables.

So are you certifying that r48305 doesn't have this problem on an R7000? I'm looking for a testimonial from an R7000 user.

Don't know what the web browser has to do with a problem that's also hosing the telnet interface.

That is what build threads are for, see r48305. Don't see a difficulty here, with TFTP recovery it doesn't matter.

You said GUI crashed & Telnet too. r47925 has no reported issues how do you expect to certify your hardware?

Besides if you have been following build threads you would have known already bugs have been recently fixed.

If you avoid web interface after initial user/pass/pass, cold reboot, maybe Telnet is fine. CLI username is root.

CLI Flash instructions and link to wiki are always in build threads too, among other sorts of helpful information.

Last time I needed to tftp a build to a router was 2016.

And now, with this one, tftp attempts from multiple client apps are failing to send anything. I see the router ping with 100 ttl and hit send on the tftp client with the r48305 build file selected. It shows sending while it continues to ping at 100 ttl for 10-15 seconds and then ping stops responding, then shortly after that pings with a 64 ttl, and the tftp client reports that sending failed. Windows firewall is disabled. Was hoping to avoid a console cable recovery. Any advice?

I'm able to get in with telnet which continues to work UNTIL I open the web GUI, and then the telnet session closes and can't be started again.

So at this point it seems I'm looking at setting up a web server on the PC so that I can wget the build file and then write it. Anything else easier?

I've used this https://www.rejetto.com/hfs/ but if WAN to ISP modem is DHCP you can http wget, curl directly.

Try CLI flash
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#Method_3:_Flashing_with_Command_Line

Or use winscp to move the file to /tmp

WinSCP needs SSH enabled, correct?

'cd /tmp' then 'wget {file URL}' (http only) or 'curl -O {file URL}' (http, https, ftp). 'write {file} linux' then 'reboot'

Thanks, that was pretty easy to use, but having now flashed r48305 and erased nvram, it's behaving the same. Not sure where else to go except flash a Netgear build and return it for a refund at my shipping cost. What a waste of time.
