Hi,
I am wondering if a setup that I want to do (actually got it working once, then when I restarted my PC it never worked again)

I have 1 main router and I want to add a 2nd router that will have a VPN running on it. I want any PC's that are connected to the VPN to be able to connect to any of the non VPN PC's via shared folders on certain PC's

For my 2nd router (running the VPN) I have it setup like

and the wireless

I have a cable from the main router going into one of the LAN ports on the 2nd router

I would like to have a VPN kill switch on this also, but will look at how to do that later.

I can get this working if I make them 2 separate networks, but would like to keep this all one network if possible so my current shared folders stay intact.

Thank you.

In a bridged configuration (i.e., NO WAN), the 2nd router needs to have a LAN ip in the same IP network as the primary router. I assume the primary is 192.168.1.1. So the 2nd router should be 192.168.1.2, NOT 192.168.2.1. The 2nd router needs a DNS server (Local DNS) as well (192.168.1.1 seems a wise choice).

Also, once the VPN is established on the 2nd router, in order for any other devices on the 192.168.1.0/24 network to be routed through it, they have to have their default gateway changed to the LAN ip of the 2nd router (192.168.1.2), where normally it would be that of the primary router (192.168.1.1).

I was going off of some other tutorials online and will give that setup a try.

Thank you.

OpenVPN documentation is a sticky in this forum, link also in my signature at the bottom of this post.

The OpenVPN Client setup guide has a paragraph about setting up a VPN Client on a Wireless Access Point (WAP)

To get the best out of DDWRT and the forum read the forum guidelines with helpful pointers about how to research your router, where and what firmware to download, where and how to post and many other helpful tips:

eibgrad,
I went and did what you said and it worked like a charm, thankyou.

I also was able to use the FlashRouters Privace app to do excactly what I wanted with a VPN.

Thank you again.

Then you might be using an old build as until recently the flash routers app is/was not working on modern builds.

As of now we are on build 47976
