Hi, did a search to see if it mentioned anywhere but did not find any topics on this.

I notice the speed test built into DD WRT badly under performs, least for me in the UK.

If I speed test over wifi or wired lan using the browser and any of the major speed test sites I get near to my full speed 150 meg. yet when using the built in speedtest I am only get 30-50 meg

The "speedchecker" has never worked properly for me.
It shows 25mbit internet speed although 100Mbit is going through the line.
Even my upload speed of 40Mbit is much higher than what is displayed.

Actually, speedtest works perfectly. As long as you recognize that's what's being tested as a client is the router! And like any speed test, the bandwidth you can expect is going to be directly affected by the capabilities of that client. And which in the case of your typical router is NOT all that impressive. Neither is my 2015 netbook when it's serving as the client.

That's the fundamental flaw in having the speedtest app running on the router. Like many other apps that users like to have available on the router, just because it *can* be run on the router, doesn't mean it *should*! OpenVPN has been another example of this same problem. It's mighty convenient to have such apps run on the router, but they can also fall victim to its inherent limitations.

speedtest_cli ≠ speedchecker

and the speedchecker (an embedded web page) works anything but perfectly

Some patch went in to this, however I see no difference whatsoever.

Also speedchecker is an external service and better just ignore it, use a decent service that supports multi connections speedtest.net FTW.
