Hello,

I've had a tough time finding a solution to scheduling time for a virtual AP--perhaps it is not possible. Does anyone know how to do something like this:

SSID: PARENTS (on 24x7)
SSID: KIDS (a set time each day or all weekend)

If this isn't possible, maybe it's worth considering as a feature request. Us parents are having a hell of a time with screen times, and some of the real serious downsides of social media for younger kids.

P.S. It seems like a tough week (log4j) for project maintainers, and the sometimes thankless work they do, so thank you to everyone that has worked on dd-wrt. It's been a great help.

You are running an old and unsupported build.

You really should update

I will move this thread to the appropriate forum Smile

Thanks for moving it. As a newcomer, the individual hardware forms appear to be related to installation issues, and a general feature didn't fit any form particularly well. Cheers

And radio scheduling passing over midnight (and noon?) is quirky, if memory serves. I don't know if that issue has ever been resolved. And I don't think you can schedule virtual interfaces...

That seems to be what I'm finding on the current build. Too bad, that would have been a killer solution for managing screen time. Thanks for the help.

You can also use IPSET to schedule access restrictions see:

You can't just have cron just bring the interface up at a certain time and take it down at a certain time? What am I missing?

Probably that cron doesn't appear on any configuration page and is absent in the documentation.

Sure, I can dive into the terminal and configure such things, but my question is aimed at the existing wireless scheduler.

Looks like IPSEC came out on a later build. I'll look into this, thanks for the tip.

Is there are a reason that you need a Virtual Access Point?

I use one, that is because I do not trust my doorbell, ip security cameras, and internet of crap devices, that it can be hacked, then my entire network can be monitored or hacked, hence it needs to be firewall-ed, through separate dhcp servers.

However you can have one ssid, ie PARENTS , and restrict all your kids devices via their mac address.

IE :

nintendo switch ( mac address) , timed restricted through the control panel

kids ipad, (mac address) time restricted.

dad's work laptop - no restrictions.

They will be able to connect to anything that is on your maid ssid though, like a NAS ie synology so password protect all.

A virtual access point would provide the simplest solution for non-technical end users. On shared devices, users can change access as easily as they can change access points (e.g. a parent can switch SSID's, with appropriate passwords).

Some of the recommended solutions are based on Ethernet address or assigned IP addresses; they are not easily changed by end users. This also gets complicated quickly with three kids and a half dozen devices.

Security is addressed per subnet rather than access points.

Maybe we have such different builds that I have cron in the GUI and you don't? Check to be sure: GUI, Administration tab, Management (default) subtab, Cron section.

Messing with this a bit...

I can bring down a VAP using 'ifconfig wlan0.1 down'. Clients stop functioning.

'ifconfig wlan0.1 up' makes it look like it's up in the GUI, but channel is 'unknown' and nothing will connect.

Is there an extra step when bringing it up?

To fix this, I go into Wireless/Basic and hit Apply and wlan0.1 returns to normal functioning.

Regards, Rick
