Hello,
Yesterday i updated the DD-WRT version for my Linksys ACS 1900 router, from build 44715 to build 47745.
Everything went ok (30/30/30 before flashing and also before reconfiguration), up till the login screen.
The typed user name and password don't seem to work. I thought maybe i made some mistakes along.
I reset (30/30/30) the router again and proceeded with changing the user name and password.
Same thing happened, i can't log in!
After about 5 resets, the web interface will not load (blank page).
At this point, i thought i have somehow botched the flashing and bricked the router.
Tftp recovery attempts:
I opted for the tftp recovery method as i still could seccessfuly ping the router.
However, things didn't go as expected. No data transfer to the router. The tftp (tftpd64) application was taking forever.
Switched "tftpd64" for "Firmware Upgrade Utility_v3.6.10" witch gave me a hint that Windows OS firewall could interfere with the transfer and should be disabled.
I disabled Windows as well as Kaspersky Firewalls. To no avail. The "new" tftp app will just time out.
In between multi-multi resets and Tftp recovery attempts, i launched Chrome browser (instead of my usual Firefox), lo and behold, the login page was accessible.
I quickly put short and easy password (A-Z 0-9) and got access !
It seems that very long and complex passwords will get truncated at saving. My initial password was a mix of 70 characters (!$µ*@=ç^/ ...). Now its just 30, with no special characters.
Is my assumption true ? anyone experienced something similar with regards to password length and complexity ?
I would make about only 2 login attempts before resetting the whole thing over.
Is the result of a timeout after 5 login attempts a blank page /not loading web interface ?
The failed tftp recoveries also got me worried. Could have waited hours long had it not been the monitoring of the com between the pc and the router.
Still don't know why it/i failed miserably.
Got myself a "proper" serial cable, for next time.

Yes, you are blocked so you cant load anything until timeout is done...

You're welcome again.
Ive received a obvious recommendation that we should notify some password characters are not accepted via web interface, but IMO unless there is some kind of blocking issue the best UX is to support all characters in passwords and any length.
That failing, yes I agree that some sort of notification should be show to e user upon detecting invalid characters.
Have forwarded this to the flying spaghetti monster as a wish.

And for future incidents, remember the words of the Glorious FSM: "Thou shalt not do 30/30/30 except in search of expensive bricks."
See Cliff Notes sticky and many other forum mentions. Folklore has it that 30/30/30 is for much older hardware and is not compatible with the WRT* routers of recent years. I'm having to refrain from a joke here due to the forum rules...
You covered everything pretty well, but I will add, "Stickies,
