Just flashed my WRt54GL (v1.1) from V23SP2 to V24 RC7 (build 9307). The web interface went to blank and then no matter what I did I just could not bring it back. I tried hard reset (upplug power plug while holding reset button, keep holding for 30 secs), 30 second reset (while power was on) and simple reset (press reset once). Before I did reset, I was still able to surf online but now of course no way to go out.

I can ping and telnet into the router (by providing default root/admin password), how can I bring the web interface back?

Thanks for any reply.

Thank you nibbs.

In telnet, the first line seemed executed but the second line gave me "can't load library 'libcrypto.so.0.9.8'" .

Is it possible I just flash back to V23SP2? by using telnet?

Sorry, my telnet-knowledge ends with those two commands. Sad

This is a very common browser problem. You need to clear your browser cache. Not a router problem. Most of the time if i just exit all instances of the browser and re-open it that works fine.

Thanks. I cleared browser cache on both IE and firefox, still unable to connect. Sad

Well if you can ping your box then you should be able to reflash it via TFTP

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/tornado/Windows-TFTP

That's the TFTP windows client. Just remember to leave the box alone for several minutes after you TFTP the firmware.

Thanks. yes, I can ping, can telnet, but tftp says it is unable to get responses from the server. Sad

It looks like the only way I can communicate with this router is by telnet, since tftp not working. Any one can tell me how to flash/reflash it using telnet? The command line flash guide on wiki is too simple for me to follow up.

Many thanks,
Henry

Someone else reported this problem with the VPN version. Is that what you are using?

You need to give your PC a manual IP address if you expect tftp to work.

What do you mean the guide is too simple? What steps are you having troubles with?

Yes, you are right. It is the VPN version. Thanks for the idea of manual IP address. I did it and succeeded. Thanks a lot.

I reverted back to original Linksys firmware and then flashed to Tomato 1.17. I'll stay with tomato until an official V24 release.

I had problem following up in scp/wget commands in telnet. Anyway, the guide "Recover from a bad Flash" saved my day.

Thank you all for helping me out.

Hi,

As another point of reference, I had similar problems with RC7-9307 on a Linksys WRTG54L 1.0 accessing the DDWRT web interface (http://192.168.1.1):

dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin : Could access web interface
dd-wrt.v24_vpn_generic.bin : Could NOT access web interface

I did however use the "2.4 Flashing with Command Line" telnet method to reinstall the previous dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin, which had a working web interface.

"This is available on routers that have DD-WRT installed and SSH enabled."

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Installation#Upload_The_Firmware

I simply telnet to 192.168.1.1, retrieved desired firmware via wget (http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-RC7-9307/dd-wrt.v24_mini_generic.bin) to /tmp, wrote image, rebooted and restored defaults.

If this can be done, it found it easier than trying tftp:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Recover_from_a_Bad_Flash#Recovering_with_TFTP.

Unfortunately, the method of recovery used is directly related to how messed up it is Wink, but the DDWRT installation document is a great place to start.

Add me to the list of those using 307 vpn and don't have any web interface, everything else worked fine though. Got this problem on a WRT54GS and WRT54GL. Had to telnet in and revert to 300 vpn.

Also had the same issue on Buffalo WHR HP G54 running VPN version. This didn't happen with either the micro version or the standard version though (both of which I'm currently running).
