Hi the other forum thread is locked since 2019. I am using the 2015 firmware in the supported device list and just checked the router database and see this new firmware. Has anyone used this one? Want to make sure it is good before I try to upgrade. I am currently having problem to connect VPN even though I follow the instruction for surfshark.

You don't want to use that one. The router database is not up to date. Please consider reading the build release threads to find reports on your device or search. Please also consider reporting in the build thread for the build you do wind up flashing. This is why these kinds of threads get opened, because doing any of either is too much to ask from the community at large and is a huge disservice to the community at large.
If I am not mistaken, user "thommy181" has this router, but his last report(s) were for 47305 and 47528:
Keep in mind that Broadcom now has swconfig support, and that if you do a hard reset, there may be caveats. If you are still on a K26 build and not K3.x, you will likely want to switch over to K3.x. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

I found R38581M giga (2/6/19) and R44700 (10/30/20) reported to be good. But they are chk files. Can I use those to upgrade? I read that I need a bin file to do that.

I'm sure you are aware of the different files present on the download servers. One resides in the broadcomK3x folder and one resides in a wnr3500Lv2 folder.
AFAIK there are no .bin files for this device (anymore) since <Kong> left / quit supporting MIPS devices. We prefer to try and focus on current releases (currently 47665); I have no direct advice to give you, it is entirely your decision as to what to flash. All I ask is that you find the applicable build release thread and report your results.
The chk file worked fine. Had problem with unstable Wan/lan ports in R38581 and now installed R44467. It still has LAN not connecting initially and require unplug and replug the cable but seems more stable. Updated findings in both build threads.
If no more problems, I'll be happy to stick with an earlier firmware.

If your wired client is Windows (or anything else), there may be a delay, or not. I did notice one thing: Jumbo frames is not a good idea. This can affect client connectivity. I don't have near as many issues after disabling jumbo frames across the board. If you have USB in use and are using Samba, the next release should be good. Newer releases also have a lot of webUI / UX improvements, too. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

R44467 is not working and still have frequent internet drop so I just installed R44700. So far I am connected to ethernet and have not had problem yet but it is too early to say.
