Hi,
I'm using a R7000. Nothing special except minidlna and privoxy.
WIth Kongs firmware 35900M everything was fine.
Recently updated to the new 47528 and 47618. Everything stable and fast.

BUT Privoxy is slowing down internet request extremely (page loading time 1 minute and above). SOmetimes it looks like that sites cannot be accessed, server doesn't respond and so on. After reloading sites multiple times it works at some point. I'm running only the basic lists...

Does anyony have the same problems and a solution for this?

Coming from such an old build often a full reset and then put settings in manually (never restore from a backup) can work wonders if everything else fails.

Full reset can be done from CLI (telnet/Putty):
Code:
nvram erase && reboot

Done and setup from scratch (only static ip, wifi, ssh and privoxy) but loading times are horrible with privoxy on.
Some sites are not loaded, cannot reach the site. Reloading solves that in some cases, I have to retry several times.
Some sites are loading without problems, 5 minutes later site cannot be reached... retrying... loading... confusing

I have played with privoxy some but no expert... what I *think* is happening is that the router is acting as a proxy server, so it is having to relay all of the connections (different than just NAT, in essence the proxy server is doing more processing) and depending on the rules that are set in privoxy some are slower than others (as I was reading the documentation). I do not know how optimized the default rules are.

You may have to check the router's resources too... I was messing with setting up a caching proxy server one time and it was getting overloaded on connections and the cache amount, so the connections would slow down, think TCP's congestion control and udp just dropping packets.

Played with some parameters, buffer size, compression, and so on: no improvement, sometimes sites can not be resolved, after reloading page loading very fast loading..
Next page wait 10 seconds for resolving, then loading

With Kong firmware privoxy worked very good, now I have to disable it.
Maybe someone has an idea for future releases to improve the performance...

Seems it's no problem with privoxy itself. After disabling privoxy page loading still stucks very often, seems to be a problem with dnsmasq.
Played a lot with different dns servers (6 up to 10 servers). No improvement at all.

Flashed back to 47097: Everything works fluently, including privoxy!

Is there a problem with dnsmasq in newer builds?

For DNSMasq make sure to have two servers in Static DNS 1 and 2 (and of course you can set Static DNS 3 also)

Also disable "Query DNS in strict order" on service page.

One of the above should work

I have tried that: Defined three dns servers on the setup page, no strict order.

Also defined no servers on setup page, but defined them at Additional Dnsmasq Options (up to 10 servers).

Evertime the same result: When browsing (Wifi, lan not tested), page loading stucks or loading of page takes much time or page was not found.

Tried it in router and gateway mode, no difference.

Back to older firmware 47097: page loading in warp speed... Something must have changed
