I understand that TP-Link Archer C7 AC1750 versions 2-5 are compatible with dd-wrt firmware. Here is a post where a user recently flashed the firmware.

I found one of the C7 routers for sale. The version is 5.8. Is there a good chance that that will work or is dd-wrt only compatible with versions 5.0 and lower?

Are you sure it's not an Archer A7?

On the front of the box, it says, "Archer C7"

In small print, next to UPC, it says
Model: Archer C7(US) Ver: 5.8

The seller is Staples (it's an office supply store in the US).

Historically speaking, TP-Link "version numbers" don't have a whole lot of weight, meaning a "v5" is a "v5.x" and a "v5.8" is a "v5". Pretty sure the C7v5 firmware should flash just fine. If you look to the left of this post, you'll see that I should be fully aware of what "Staples" is. Of course, the closest one to me is probably around an hour's drive because the chain doesn't have a very large footprint in TX.

As @kernel-panic69 said, it should work. My unit is C7 V5 (US), small print says Ver 5.0 which I guess is the firmware shipped from factory, since my unit was updated the very day I bought it, and stock firmware showed Ver: 5.2. Then I switched to DDWRT. Remember to use VANILLA fimrware if you flash to a 47xxx build, otherwise WiFi won't work.

V5.0 made in China, V5.8 made in Indonesia or Philippines ( I forget which exactly) Look at the label and you will see where it was made.

V5 firmware will work on any "made-in" location.

And this is a great low cost router for <150mbps speeds.
Anything above that will need the R7800 or R9000.
