Hi everybody,
a while ago my wrt610 died over night, so i thought I'd have a go at fixing it.
I've tried doing all the reset stuff but it doesn't make any differance, the hub part still works ok and the power light flashes.
So I used my rPi to connect to the serial port and install putty.
It seems to be crashing at ' committing to NVRAM ' ater which it stops and wont even reset. I've hopefully added a screen grab of the rPi screen.
I dont know what to try next.
Many thanks
Ian

Use Management Mode; these don't need serial recovery, normally.

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/WRT610N

We really need separate wikis for v1 and v2.

If you're wanting to do serial recovery....

CTRL+C and get a CFE prompt and then recover it if you can't TFTP.

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/TFTP_flash

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Recover_from_a_Bad_Flash

Also, please re-size your image attachment to no wider than 768 pixels or upload it to an image hosting site and link it.

Too bad these can't be merged and added to the references sticky now.

First, as kp69 alluded, crop and resize that image to <=768 pixels. ('edit' your first post to do that)

Second, welcome! Wink

Third, break CFE in serial (ctrl-C immed from powerup to get a CFE prompt), and `nvram erase`. I just fixed a RT-N66U this way, that suddenly quit working at my parents house. Failed flash block I imagine.

Otherwise, might be time for an upgrade. Cool

Many thanks for the replies and all the links. I'll have a go with serial coms, I cant get anything to tftp. Some great reading.

I have a rPi 3 spare so may try dd-wrt on that for a giggle.
Thanks again

Hi again everybody,
I've been trying to get break into the loading of my router but cant get a prompt.
I've even tried on my pc using a ch340 usb serial adapter in case the rPi wasn't fast enough.

Is there a knack to timing pressing ctrl-c ?

Thanks again.

Rattle the keys while applying power usually works. That is if all connections are good and PuTTY settings are good.

There may be nothing wrong with it. What you may be seeing is the results of a failing AC adapter wall wart. When they start dying they don't supply enough power and in particular nvram operations will be the first to fail since those need extra power to write the flash chip.

Hi everybody, I've managed to get into it, after a couple of hours trying to get into it, it booted enough to get a prompt. And flashed v3.0-r44715 mega on it build onto it.
The only problem is I cant get Wifi to work, but its stable for now.
Thanks for help, will keep you updated.

I'm of the same mindset as tedm....This is really old hardware. I would open up the router and examine all the capacitors. Make sure none are bulged or leaking. If they are, replace them. (desolder and solder will be involved) Same goes for the wall-wart...these are notorious for capacitor leakage and causing under-voltage conditions. This could definitely be part of the issue.
