You were pointing your browser to http://192.168.1.1, we presume. Ensure your browser isn't defaulting to https.

Yes, tried "http://192.168.1.1" on Firefox, Chrome, and even Internet Explorer with no luck. It's not timing out though, after about 2-4 seconds it's saying that the connection is refused. Ipconfig shows that I have an actual ip address with the router of 192.168.1.xx using dhcp. Also tried using static ip of 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.2 with no luck. Flushed DNS cache, disabled and re-enabled network adapter. Really at a loss here since I am staring at a xr500 flashed with DD-WRT but I can't get into it at all.

if you can, provide a Serial log of the flash and boot process - thats how the last 2 bad block firmware where created, i made serial logs for brainslayer ...and he adapted the bad block detection

FTDI FT232RQ USB UART TTL-232R-RPI, DTECH FT232RL FTDI USB to TTL serial 3.3V, SiLabs CP2102 Adafruit 954

Another possible solution, mining for golden nuggets in OpenWrt source assuming bad blocks are handled not luck.

Try Pale Moon Portable. Or find the settings in FF or Chrome, it sounds like it's shifting to https, regardless of what you enter.

Tried Pale Moon Portable and got the same result of connection refused; still unable to telnet or ssh like before. This is no issue at all on my EA8500, I can just type in 192.168.1.1 and login to DD-WRT. It is just this XR500 that has the issue, which is understandable since it has bad nand and a fix is presumably still in the works. Something I might need to point out is that the wireless lights are not on until I enable my ethernet adapter; maybe that points out something since they should be on whether a cable is plugged into a port or not.

Some further research might indicate that the http daemon is not starting, but with no telnet or ssh access there is no way to send a command to start it. Serial could be an option, but I can't find the cable that I used to flash my EA8500 many years ago and am just hoping there is a simpler way than opening this thing up and ordering another cable. Since it is flashed, there should be some way to access it without serial one would think.

Serial logs require serial, or unless you want to dig into source in hopes of finding gold, a USB to UART is required.

UART adapter to three pins inside XR500, with PuTTY connected to serial COM port, to log output during power on.

that's the one i have
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203604196200

and its been working as intended, also Win 7 has drives for it...haven't check it on Win 10 or any others..as the rig i use for serial is old dualcore with Win 7 utimate...

just bear in mind:
-don't use 5V unless its needed(mostly not needed)
-when connecting connect tx to rx and rx to tx ...
-and GRD to GRD...

on my router(1043v2) i dont even need 3,3v as i use it's own power...to boot...
I can share the steps i used to serial recover my 1043v2, as on many routers serial recovery is the same, just firmware size its different...

if you need it give us a shout..

and when you get to the serial output:

1. connect to serial interface (usb to TTL adapter)
connected serial tx to rx, rx to tx and grd...(do not need 3.3V at this point)..

2. Use putty and tftpd32 or tftpd64 - set putty to serial and configure serial to:

in my case serial set up was looking like:

Bits per second: 115200
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None

No idea about yours, but those are mostly the same...

Ok. Here are the logs!
3 logs.
1. 52054 that boots and no wifi.
2. Latest 52369 that has bootloop.
3. And stock dumaos V2.3.2.134 that works but has badblocks in logs (maybe it will help somehow).
