May sound harsh but you can throw them in the garbage, they are technologically on the level of a 20 year old WRT54.
(I would not like to have it as a gift)
extremely slow processor
4MB Flash and 16MB RAM
IEEE 802.11g 54Mbit / if you are lucky you get a maximum of 25Mbit out of it
And the stock firmware always runs faster, it probably runs with proprietary components and hardware nat or whatever.
Wired you should reach more than 13Mbit anyway
but we don't know your setup and configuration except that you do weird things with double NAT etc. anyway
with the little information provided, no one will be able to give you a helpful answer anyway.
What does the network configuration look like?
What are the exact measurement results?
How high is the CPU load on the router during a long download?

ok, but thats not the point is it... ddwrt was around and working when these were popular.

4MB Flash and 16MB RAM
IEEE 802.11g 54Mbit / if you are lucky you get a maximum of 25Mbit out of it
yep, 25mbit is perfectly fine for this
And the stock firmware always runs faster, it probably runs with proprietary components and hardware nat or whatever.
so does that mean it wont ever work right? people have had this issue with other brands and models
Wired you should reach more than 13Mbit anyway
stock will run around around 54/20 down up, ddwrt will only do 13/13mbit. on a 50\20 internet connection.
i am not interested i the best speeds, just in finding out why this is happening.
but we don't know your setup and configuration except that you do weird things with double NAT etc. anyway
there is no special setup, this is all test bench
stock firmware both ddwrt and factory.
again im not trying to tweak max speeds, but find out why there is a big change when ddwrt is running.
and not sure why double nat is a "wierd", its a quick way to isolate networks and devices.
with the little information provided, no one will be able to give you a helpful answer anyway.
how about suggest which "info" ...that would seem much more helpful.
What does the network configuration look like?
stock router, test pc. mobile device.
What are the exact measurement results?
long story short. ddwrt gets half the stock speed
How high is the CPU load on the router during a long download?
well thats the thing... its not. nothing while running TOP in telnet goes very high
for example. when testing wifi (the link is perfect) 54m
download will start at around 2,4,5mbit and then drop taper off to 0.2
the upload seem to work almost at normal speed or more solid no taper off.
on the wire test its a solid 20\20.
the upload seems ok but the down seems slower
stock firmware would be sitting on 25\20 wifi 50\20 wired.
what can i test further to try find the issue?

Software NAT needs a lot of CPU resources.
Therefore it is weird to run an additional unnecessary second NAT on a router with a 180Mhz CPU.
This is exactly the opposite of performance.
And since you don't bother to answer the questions completely, post your confirguration etc.. I won't go into it further.
btw: just dug out a WRT54 and running it as a WAP
iperf3 says 15Mbit (no clean channel)

You two are doing the very same thing that have people including you two upset with me; While you both are correct, berating someone is not the answer. Neither one of you chimed in on this thread, but the user opened the one we are in now and you are being rude and putting them off instead of posting helpful information. That being said, I also asked for configurations and got stonewalled; so @tgvrfcedx you do need to be a little more forthcoming, or you won't get quality help. Also, to note, this situation is a given a lot of times more often than not because of the nature of custom firmware not using the same exact drivers, kernel, and proprietary binary blobs. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

not sure what that has to do with this topic, or where i said anything about "software nat" or that i am running any such thing on this test or on a single router.

again.... what question.....
post what configuration???? again... its stock firmware hard reboot.
you can ramble on about unrelated topics, but oddly cannot ask direct questions.
seems like a trend on this forum

a WRT54???? what does this have to do with anything? there is more then one type of WRT54....
only 15Mbit (sad smiley)
[b]the dir-300 has WPA2 AES. and im not even running any wifi security. and this issue is not just wifi speed its wired too.
i already explained the stock firmware runs almost twice as fast throughput ....im trying to figure out why ddwrt is not working well.
if you dont know or cant help there is no need to reply

And this is why this user has questions and complaints; because the information is buried and not in the wiki. And device threads are a cumbersome cesspool to wade through. I see both sides of this. Deleting your responses does nothing to benefit or otherwise.
