As it turns out, I do forget about "example scripts". Hats off to @dTX. But you still don't understand the error messages from wlconf in the serial log, syslog, or dmesg. And I still don't get those entries in my resolv.conf due to my network configuration. It has to be passed down from upstream. All I have to do is go back to defaults on my ISP gear, and it's there. And I have plenty of assets in TX, AR, OK, and LA ... on Spectrum and Charter. No issues.
P.S. I do believe this is where the base code in DD-WRT gets the wan domain name from (not from a script in busybox tree), but I could always be wrong ^_^
