I agree with KP69. With people dropping out of FB faster than CNNs ratings are dropping, social media would be a horrible choice. While this site is in dire need of an upgrade, it is still the best source of information and online help by a long shot. _________________ Linksys EA8500 (Internet Gateway, AP/VAP) - DD-WRT r53562

Is this still the case after the debacle with libera/freenode?
freenode has changed, so unless you want to use mobile apps to register a nick, its no longer possible to register new nicks and after freenode dropped all the databases all previous registrations are invalid.
Also the only way to log into freenode and identify is via sasl
Not sure what their web chat works like, I use real IRC clients.
In any case sometimes chatting in real time about related topics with other users is actually not a bad idea.
OK so if not freenode where? and do please update the wiki/elsewhere links to IRC.
edit
Freenode channels are dead both of them and the dd-wrt-wiki mentions a german channel which links only at the bottom, IMO should be next to each other.

There is unnofficial chan at libera with same name
So, the channels are there, but no activity, is that what you're saying? Is there anyone even in the userlist?
haha the freenode channel should be unregistered, after freenode switched to another irc daemon all users and channels were deleted
If so, then the channel on freenode is either unregistered or has been re-registered by someone else
What would the point be of having that? What functionality from discord do we absolutely need here?
The point is to have a live enviroment. But also because I find that the forums are more for technicial related things such as testing firmware, asking for help, and posting/reading guides for this specific dd-wrt related thing.
I think a live environment like discord would allow for more freedom and also not seeing the same commonly asked questions such as "what router should I buy?"
There is also better picture sharing for when you gotta show whats going on with your dd-wrt related issue.

1. There is DDWRT Facebook page...
2. Whats the point of making all social media presence as KP-69 said above...DDWRT as a fashion or trend ?
3. (i personally dont like Discord, WhatsAP, SkyPE, Zoom.. and all those spy eyes/buggy's from those caliber)
1. Did not know there is a facebook page.
2. Neither one is the one im after. Just an alternative. maybe redundancy too since I read that the forums need some work to be done on.
3. No one is holding you hostage...

Since when did discord become "social media"?
@KP69 @ho1Aetoo
I know IRC is a live enviroment, but isnt it a bit too basic? Then again, I never used it much myself. IRC in general that is. _________________ For people who are new to the dd-wrt forums >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm

Let me be the one to clear up one point of confusion: There is no image size limitation here; you have two options, you either attach one that doesn't blow up the page, or you use an image hosting site and link it. Also, private or otherwise un-retainable discussions serve no purpose to the community at large.
@ho1Aetoo: IRC, Slack, email*. At least that is what all I have been using; but not as active on IRC these days.
@GamemanAdvancedKid: That platform may NOT be free to set up our own RELIABLE discord resource; this forum and IRC are free to the end user. Only cost involved is with the forum and website resources, but I don't think we need to add an extra overhead cost, do we?
As it stands, community-wise, this forum is the primary means for everything; IRC isn't even mentioned anymore on the 2021 version of the main website.
We do not need video or voice functionality, and as for "live", do we really need more confusion? Also, the forum usually preserves content, does Discord? This is why somewhere it mentions straying away from PM helpdesk scenarios on the forum; which you are pushing for another avenue to literally hide content from the community at large. I don't see any point or viable purpose here. If the push is to have BS more engaged, then I think you're point is moot.
Anyhow, perhaps we should poll the community at large here. So far, I see no interest other than yours.
