The 5G band is acting as a repeater and the 2.4G band is an Access Point (I have tried with a VAP and the same thing happens). I configured the OpenVPN Client and everything works fine when the VPN is on. Any traffic connected to the Asus router runs through the VPN.
However, when i disable the VPN, the internet connection goes with it. There is no kill switch configured and i cant figure out the problem.
FWIW I upgraded my R6200v2 to 47256 configured as 2.4 GHz WLAN Repeater (using same wiki guide) with 5 GHz AP connected to my R7800 connected in bridge mode to ISP modem..
For fun I configured OVPN client to PIA. No killswitch.
All working fine VPN enabled and disabled connected wired or wirelessly. No PBR configured.
The upgraded software fixed it thanks. I thought i had the latest version but must have been looking in the wrong place.
The lack of speed under OpenVPN from the puny CPU caused me to go out and buy a shiny new router that now outstrips my ISP connection speed, but that's another story
FWIW:
ISP - 25Mbps
Asus under OpenVPN - 6Mbps
WRT3200 under OpenVPN - 32Mbps

Looks like you are getting the full bandwidth on VPN now. But that increase is normal, cause their modems use bits for the rates. 250000000 bps = 31.25 Mbps. There's 8 bits in a byte.
