I have an ASUS RT-AC66U B1 hw rev B2 flashed with an ac68u build as per a forum post. I have also tried a WRT610N v2 as well with the same results.
The signal quality is very low (around 25-35%) and speed tests only run at 1Mbps if at all. Very few errors (4 Rx errors after 36 hrs). WPA2-PSK / CCMP-128 AES security. Firewall disabled except filter multicast. I have disabled TurboQAM, CTS, set to short preamble and shortslot override. WMM is on. Power turned down to 42 mW.
The main router is ISP provided and running 2.4Ghz b/g/n mixed.
Any ideas on why the link to the main router is so slow? Anything I should try?

What's the signal strength/link speed when your other devices (phone/laptop...) connect to your main ISP router, when they are at the same location as the repeater bridge?
There's a chance that the main ISP router signal is weak at the place you put your repeater bridge, so nolimitz's suggestion is very wise to help you figure out whether the issue is with the main ISP router or the repeater bridge:

Just to remind you that the repeater bridge has no black magic to increase the throughput - if the signal reception from the main ISP router is bad then there's nothing for the repeater bridge to repeat.
Theoretically, when using repeater bridge, you can only get half of the throughput at most. So, try to run the cable from the main ISP router to the second router if possible. For me, the reason I'm using repeater bridge (albeit having to put up with random disconnections) is because I don't want to lay cable from the landlord's living room to the room I'm renting, and I found a spot that has good signal reception (link speed 702 Mbit/s on 5GHz) _________________ ▫ RSS feed for DD-WRT releases (2024): https://rsseverything.com/feed/7d36ab68-7733-46c3-bd8a-9c54c5cef08c.xml
