Best router if WiFi isn’t important (OpenVPN - Packet Snif

I currently have a Deco based Mesh which serves me well. Also have OpenVPN server running on DSM.

Two issues I have are:

1) Since we left the EU I’d like to use the OpenVPN server for accessing my streaming services when away. The DSM is upto streaming my CCTV and other lower bandwidth access. But struggles with streaming video services.

2) For Dev work I sometimes need to sniff packets between mobile devices. Which can be a Pain over WiFi. Hence using a DDWRT router would make life easier for this as I could use TCPdump. My Decos (X20 and M5) don’t have this option.

Since I have the Mesh, WiFi is not important to me. So I was wondering if anyone could advise the best option for my usage case. I don’t mind grabbing a used device from eBay/etc worst case.

if no WLAN is needed and the router should handle high bandwidth with VPN and QoS then maybe a x86 miniPC

I do have a spare X86 mini PC, I guess I could try that.

Only issue is I’d ideally like to tuck it away in my comms cupboard. That’s already packed, so would prefer something more efficient if it’s not going to break the bank. I don’t need a huge amount of VPN throughput, would just be one video stream. Kids are happy enough with YouTube etc. But I miss my sports when I’m away now Sky etc have pulled EU streaming Sad
