I know I will get crucified for asking such a question, but I'll do it anyway. I've had no success Googling forum searching...

Where is the Kernel?

There's no /boot folder, and no vmlinuz or equivalent in the root filesystem.

if i do cat /proc/mtd i get
Code:
 dev:    size   erasesize  name
mtd0: 00040000 00020000 "cfe"
mtd1: 01fa0000 00020000 "linux"
mtd2: 01697400 00020000 "rootfs"
mtd3: 00020000 00020000 "nvram"
mtd4: 00740000 00020000 "ddwrt"

is the Kernel maybe in mtd1 or mtd4?

Bring out the pitchforks, linux (in raw flash, not a file system).

You aren't by chance Chris on a "competitive" board are you? Smile

https://forum.openwrt.org/t/wheres-the-linux-kernel-located/100239

"That is heavily SOC- and device dependent. In most cases, the kernel is outside the rootfs on a dedicated flash partition (e.g. a hard mtd, a virtual one via mtdsplit or an ubi partition, it depends), the OEM bootloader typically loads a hardcoded amount of bytes from a given flash offset and loads the kernel from there."

"OEM Bootloader" is a fancy way of saying CFE in Broadcom terms, that is. (Atheros does not use a CFE) The OpenWRT developers like fancy. Smile Us folks over here just want the stuff to work... Smile
