I have tried several DD-WRT versions including the latest on my Netgear r7800. I lose web access to the GUI after changing the subnet to 192.168.88.1.I can ping ok and the router works aside from this and if I reset, GUI access is restored.
Have to ask... are you doing a release/renew of your network adapter, or a reboot of your device to get an IP on the new subnet? _________________ NetGear XR500 - FW Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r55819 std (04/17/24)

I initially disabled the ethernet adapter on my laptop and activated to get a new address on the .88 net. I retested again by releasing/renewing and got the same results. No GUI.
