What version of stock firmware is it running, what version of dd-wrt did you try to flash, which file did you use to flash dd-wrt? Was there any specific error number on the failure?

C9 hardware has TFTP recovery as shown in both DD-WRT and OpenWrt wikis.

There might be webpage recovery, but certainly a TTL serial recovery method.

So i got it working again so to answer your question,
DD-WRT file version - v3.0 [Beta] Build 44715
Router firmware version - Archer C9(US)_V4_171219
I used the factory-to-ddwrt file
No error number given

You might have to use a much older firmware version for initial flash, then upgrade. First release supporting this device was 33525 according to the Supported Devices Wiki. If that successfully flashes, you can try upgrading to 44715 with the archer-c9v4-webflash.bin. Current release is 47000.

Did you try downgrading to the previous version of stock firmware first?

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/download/archer-c9/v4/#Firmware

I'm reading through this thread to see if there is some information on this as well as seeing if there is any older stock firmware out there:

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=305884

You can try this factory-to-ddwrt.bin from the above thread, it should flash:

https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/download.php?id=39650

There is also a report of r36247 factory-to-ddwrt.bin working in the above thread:

https://download1.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/betas/2018/06-29-2018-r36247/tplink_archer-c9v4/

The only issue with 36247 is you have to upgrade to 44715 via ssh.

I have tried the older c9 v4 firmware for the router and no luck with being able to install dd-wrt as well

When i click upgrade it doesnt even go past 0%, and then goes to the "Unable to upgrade" error

Be sure to flash over Ethernet cable connected to a LAN port and to disconnect Ethernet from the WAN port.

Disable any OS security software or firewall. Try a different web browser, no addons, extensions or plugins.

Pale Moon (52), Waterfox Classic Portable (56), Firefox ESR Portable (78.x), Firefox ESR Legacy (68/52/45)

There may be issues with Archer C9(US)_V4_171219. If so, try downgrading to Archer C9(US)_V4_161114.

Copy and paste the link into the address bar for it to work, otherwise click link then click the bar then enter.

I also tried every suggestion on here to try to flash my US version archer c9 v4 to dd-wrt and everything failed. Going to sell it on Ebay and buy me a version 3 router instead.

Registering for a "me, too" without contributing anything but that kind of comment here is moot. We never got any feedback, but I am going to presume that this is an issue where something is preventing the firmware to upload; browser or browser add-on/extension, anti-virus, firewall, etc. I guess perhaps I should check eBay for your ad and buy it and see if I can figure it out...

If antivirus or browser is blocking, then why did I not encounter a flashing issue while trying it on my C9 V3? V3 flashed perfectly. I have not changed anything on my computer and It was just a week ago when I flashed V3 router.

Give me your address and I will send it to you. That way you can play with it and hopefully come up with any answer. Your stating that I am not contributing anything, so here is my chance to contribute something. Very Happy
