The v24 part of the filename was left there for whatever reason, but my best guess is that the last "stable" build was v2.4 (in 2008), so it is what it is. For the kernel version, see the following thread:

It's the same thing as the v24 in the filename. Neither the folder nor filename was changed from K3.x to K4.x. Getting confused over trivial filename nuances is kind of silly. That thread was letting the community know that the Broadcom MIPS devices were shifting kernel versions for the K3.x images.
