I am currently using a Linksys EA8500 running DD-WRT
I have quite a few IoT devices on my network, and I think the airtime they use is causing my 2.4ghz band to get saturated. So I think I need a router with better 2.4ghz capabilities.
More-over, I want a 2nd 5ghz Band for PC-VR Streaming. The folks over at Virtual Desktop recommend not only having the 5ghz Band have a unique SSID (So your Quest doesn't "hop over" to the 2.4ghz band), but also having the Quest on its own isolated 5ghz band with no other connected devices.
So I figure a Tri-band router would be a good upgrade. I can use my 2.4ghz for all the IoT devices, and one 5ghz band for Smart phones, tablets, laptops, Firesticks, etc... and the other 5ghz band for just the Oculus Quest.
Which routers would you recommend for this?
With my current setup... the PC-VR performance is not great due to my Oculus having to share the 5ghz Band with other devices in my home.
Why not just set up a VAP (Virtual Access Point) on the 5ghz band of your EA8500 and use that for PC-VR streaming? The EA8500 should be perfectly capable. I have about 40 IoT devices connected to my 2.4ghz with zero issues. _________________ Linksys EA8500 (Internet Gateway, AP/VAP) - DD-WRT r53562

1. I believe you are underestimating your 5ghz radio here. So throw everything that supports 5ghz onto the 5ghz radio. anything that does not see 5ghz, put it on 2.4ghz. that should be the answer to your problem
- If that does not work -
2. Buy a separate AP for the oculus. Personally, the APs of choice I would choose to buy from would be either Ubiquiti or Mikrotik. Should work well enough there. _________________ For people who are new to the dd-wrt forums >> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html#rtfm
