Upgraded WRT1200AC v1's from r46446 to r46604 using Brave 1.10.97 (64-bit) running on Linux Mint 20.1 OS hardwired via Cat6.

Successful update and reboot. No reset, nothing disabled prior to update, uptime approx 2 hr, wired/wireless connected, vpn up immediately (Expressvpn). I do not use NAS. SFE, QoS and IPv6 are always disabled. OpenVPN client/DNSMasq and radios always enabled. I do not have any Apple devices.

Kernel Version Linux 4.9.268 #2590 SMP Sun May 9 00:59:20 +07 2021 armv7l

No issues with a routine update session.

Flashed my 1900ACSv1 via CLI from 44048. I did 'nvram erase && reboot' afterwards and manually reconfigured the router. No issues with the upgrade.

Test #1: I manually typed in the simplest possible config - router name, IP, GW, local DNS server, ntp server, disabled DHCP and dnsmasq, set to router operating mode etc. For WIFI, I only enabled wlan0 and kept all the defaults: mixed, auto channel, 20mhz width, no changes to advanced settings. WPA2-AES. wlan1 disabled. Within minutes, hostapd dumped with the same error people have been seeing since 46069. GUI was unresponsive afterwards. logs and dmesg attached.

Test #2: i rebooted and configured wifi as follows and rebooted again:
wlan0 - AC/N mixed, 80mhz width, channel 36+6 WPA2-AES
wlan1 - NG mixed, 20mhz width, channel 11 WPA2-AES
I kept all the advanced settings to their defaults. This time, the router ran for over an hour before hostapd dumped. During this hour, my macbook never lost wifi but two different iphones hung up several times and had to stop/start their wifi - same issue that has been happening since 44085. logs and dmesg attached.

Went back to 44048 which is the last good release if you have Apple devices in your environment. Something broke starting with 44085.

Linksys WRT1900ACSv1: router operating mode, hardwired ethernet lan to a WRT3200ACM. WIFI: 2.4ghz: NG-mixed, 20mhz channel width, channel 11, WPA2-CCMP-128. 5ghz: AC/N mixed, 80mhz channel width, channel 36+upper, WPA2-CCMP-128.

Clients: Apple MACOS x 4, IOS x 4, Apple TV, Chromecast Audio x 2, Eufy doorbells, Lutron Caseta, Axis Camera, Samsung TV, Nest thermostat, EtekCity outlets (Espressif)..

Is it possible that Apple's "Randomized" MAC addresses are contributing to the problem with Apple devices in the releases after R44048?

I was puzzled at first by the presence of a MAC address beginning 46:C6:73 (DD-WRT is unable to resolve it to any known manufacturer) on the Status/LAN page of DD-WRT until I read about their introduction in a recent update to iOS.

I'm not sure how a fake MAC would cause so much trouble, but it's a key difference between earlier versions of iOS and the 14.x versions.

The way the IOS private MAC address feature is supposed to work is it gives a different MAC address on different wifi networks, but it should keep the same MAC on your home wifi for example. Nevertheless, I disabled this feature on tested it a while back and it did not fix this issue. This feature was introduced in IOS 14 around September 15th of last year. There were about 8 dd-wrt releases between 44048 and when IOS 14 dropped that had IOS wifi hang problems.

All good, no issues whatsoever (even on apple devices). Will update if any show up.

Thanks for sharing the experience. Based on your feedback, it doesn't make sense for me to test. All builds since 46069 have resulted in the same crashes for me - and seems it make sense to start testing again, only after the dev's state that they addressed it. BTW these crashes are still not listed as a bugs in the bug backlog.

Yesterday my Niece came over to work with my wife on a project. My wife asked me to connect her computer to our wifi. When I saw her computer I found that it was an iMac laptop??? It may have been a large folding tablet as I am not familiar with iMac devices??

I tend to be wide-eyed and poke iMac devices from a distance with a long, pointed stick while trying not to look directly at it. I had never had any iMac devices on my network and told her not to expect a solid connection.

I added her wifi MAC address to the "N Only" 2.4 GHz radio's MAC filter on the WRT1200ac, saved/applied, and gave her the password.

She connected instantly and stayed connected for over 2 hrs to my surprise. The connection was thru my VPN as all my devices do the same. I kept shouting up to them "Everything ok with the wifi??" to which they would reply "Yes, why do you keep asking?".

Currently running r46604 with no issues. Wifi settings are basically default so nothing to post about trick settings. I have no idea what her iMac firmware version is other than she has had it for 2-3 yrs. Still shaken from being so close to an alien device so . . . =) **wiping desk down with disinfectant**

Edit: My nieces OS version: MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3

LoL! If you still have it in any of your logs and/or lan/wlan clients lists, the second hex digit of the MAC address would tell us whether or not it was an Apple "randomized" address. From memory, a second digit of 2, 6, A or E indicates an Apple-randomized MAC.

Since there were no issues I did not save/check anything. Held my breath for two + hours dreading the severe penalty I would receive for a disconnect.

Since I don't know my way around an iMac I simply asked her to find her wifi MAC address and repeat it to me. I entered that into the MAC filter so she could access my network. The second hex digit of the MAC she gave me is "C" or "3C".

Basically, just did the same steps I would for connecting a PC to my wireless network. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Edit: My nieces OS version: MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3

An Apple device with second MAC digit of "C" indicates an actual (non-randomized) Apple MAC, FWIW. Assuming an updated MacOS, Private Address was probably turned off in that Mac's wifi settings for the particular SSID.
