I've tried first time with Chrome with in incognito mode, but I've had the same result with TFTP from Mac's terminal in binary mode: the router becomes unreachable few seconds after password changing (I'm able to browse in the menu for a little, then host is unreachable error appears). Reverting to stock, everything is fine. I'll try with one of these smaller builds this weekend and I'll let you know! Thank you very much guys
When you say the router becomes unreachable after a few seconds, is this behind another router or is this connected to modem?
While flashing your xr700 router don't connect it your WAN for now, just connect to pc/mac LAN only, once you've entered your user and password click apply give it 20 seconds and open new browser with http://192.168.1.1 enter user and pass and see if you have full access.
if your behind another router on the same subnet you will have issues, so change the Local IP Address something like 192.168.100.1 and apply and then connect your WAN then you'll be able to access DD-WRT router (ONLY while connecting to it) on 192.168.100.1
hope this helps _________________ Netgear R7800 PPPoE Main Router

it's connected directly to a modem via WAN port...I'll try disconnecting it, just for test, but every other time I've flashed DDWRT on my previous router were not required...
i only suggested that as i wasn't sure if you were behind another router with same dhcp range, don't use chromium based browsers, try Firefox portable version. i suspect the router has bad blocks, my xr700 flashed fine using r44483 factory-to-dd-wrt

I refer you to my last comment in this thread. You are likey making an issue out of a non-issue. Slow down, relax, quit going into a crack-induced twitchy-eyed seizure. I see the webUI become unreachable during flashing and configurations all the time. CTRL+R or CTRL+F5 on Windows (and Linux); Command+R or Command+SHIFT+R on Mac... just ensure you are not on a .cgi and are on an .asp address _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

I've tried everything to be sure it was not an issue but it is. It's also pretty odd because everything seems fine then, all of a sudden, I lost the connection...
by the way, stock firmware is way bigger than DDWRT latest build (42.2MB vs 39.6MB). I don't know about compression..just comparing 2 files with the same extension.

Must be an older Mac, Mac Mini, or Mac Pro. MacBooks have not had ethernet ports for several years, if memory serves. Anyhow, don't know why you are losing connection, but I "lose connection" all the time; from discussion in Broadcom, this could be possibly related to using a 64-bit browser and may not be an issue with 32-bit browsers. I dunno, but I think this is just a quirk that we are trying to figure out. Anything in the logs reporting that httpd crashes? _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Then you should be using Safari, Firefox ESR, or the last release of Pale Moon for Mac in private browsing mode as long as you haven't installed a hacked version of anything newer than High Sierra.
