router: netgear r8000
firmware: currently DD-WRT v3.0-r40352 std,
(but this problem has been active with any firmware used for the last few years)
I've got four devices connected directly to the r8000 via ethernet. They are given static IPs and hostnames via a dnsmasq configuration file on jffs, along with numerous wifi devices.
That pic was taken upon a fresh reboot. As you can see, these hardwired devices get their static IPs but not their hostnames. In place of the intended hostname is an asterisk. All wireless devices receive both.
I can get those wired hostnames to show if I also reboot the hardwired devices. Then, the r8000 happily provides the intended hostnames.
Do any of you folks have a solution to this? I'd very much like to have those wired hostnames populate without having to reboot them each time. _________________ Netgear r8000 - DD-WRT v3.0-r46380
On the third try, I successfully upgraded to 46380. So far, so good. The ethernet connected stuff remains the same as the older version. _________________ Netgear r8000 - DD-WRT v3.0-r46380

This is likely due to a compatibility issue with the device OS. I generally have seen no issue with Linux, Android, Apple, or Windows devices. It could be the static leases you've entered conflicting with the actual hostname given by the device OS. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"
