How are you measuring said bufferbloat on wifi?

Wireless has its own backend qos going on that you cannot control in any way on the client end.

If you're using a website to measure bufferbloat, the only reliable one is now at: https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat

The DSL reports one, as of 10 days ago, was totally bunked and had 2-5 servers operational at any time and you cannot rely on it at all.

The only real way for you to see if you're having real router issues is to run iperf testing which you'll find links to in my signature. The problem there is that you won't be able to get a pretty chart and numbers, but you will be able to see the transfer speed under heavy ping and then make the call if you see big drop offs in speed that something is busted.

Start a separate topic if you do go down this path, please.

using the waveform test. on wired - a+, on wireless 2.4 i can get an a, on 5ghz , varies between c and F, almost looks like qos not kicking in at all, it pushes 80-90 MB, but latecy goes all over the place.

There is always the possibility im having a radio HW issue, but i would expect faults in the log and dont have that. - i ordered a r9000 to test wether its HW

My R7800 is collecting dust for the moment, and doing a fine job at that, I don't have the time to mess around with it to confirm or deny, but are you following my best settings sticky?

What client/s is/are acting up? What are you using for Congestion control on the admin tab? Westwood? try switching to cubic and see what happens. Also, what are you running for QoS? HTB and FQ_Fast is the only one that works decent on the R7800 for 200+mbps WAN speeds. The R7800 tops out around 250mbps before you start to saturate the CPU when using QoS, so that might be your issue...

The R9000 will do much better, just make sure to set the fan temps super low to keep the fan running all the time. (35C)

Currently hfsc and and cake, but i have tried flipping it to the tried and true htp/fqcodel with no change.

congestion is cubic, tcp 1200,udp 120.
qca best practice is being followed vht80 on 5ghz, channel 149 +uu and is clear channel. I recently enabled Mu-Mimo, but i have tested with just SU-Mimo. no diff on vanilla or ddwrt in results. just about the onluy think i havent tried is disabling rts/cts entirely (but threshold is 2346 so its not doing much)

testbed is mostluy intel cards embedded in 10th gen or 11th gen laptops from dell. and a macbookpro thats a yr old,

I found an OpenWRT Bug report - for an r7800 tied to mac 802.11 changes. Im going to try to roll back tommorow to a build prior to 47711 and see if it resolves. Will report back - dont have a good maint window right now.

Never use mu-mimo it's buggy and creates issues on BCM for sure. Rts/CTS should be 784.

Worth a try, incrementally revert to default settings as you may discover the cause.

They are used to reduce collisions, but only if experiencing, a hidden node problem.

Defaults = SIFS Trigger Time (ms) 0, Protection Mode None, RTS Threshold Disable.
