Which Qualcomm/Atheros routers and/or radios support WPA3? I noticed that the Qualcomm site does not list WPA3 for the qca9984 radio, yet someone had posted that it's functional in Netgear R9000 (and I assume on 2.4G/5G rather than 60G) on at least build r46130. Can anyone confirm that it's actually working with WPA3 clients?

yes they work with it, its software sided.

qca9880, 9882, 9888, 9980, 9984 all work with it. ath9k based radios also supported and working. a router without wpa3 like dir-862L is probably cause of flash space, or whatever else. but the hardware works with it.

Thanks for the tip, tatsuya.
WPA3 on R7800 appears to work fine, too.

apart of been mostly used router to router, at the moment, do you have any client devices that support it...as its not avidly supported....yet

We've got 2 Apple devices currently using WPA3-EAP on Linksys/Marvell r44048, and one Win10 PC with Intel AC9560 (or possibly AC9260) card that can use it on Linksys/Marvel as of at least last month's builds.

The Apple devices that we've got on WPA3-EAP since yesterday include an iPhone X running the latest iOS 14.4.2 and an iPad Air 2 that was still running iOS 13 as of yesterday (probably updated to 14.4.2 overnight but I haven't checked yet). Please note that these are segregated to a device running r44048 (per my sig) due to an apparent incompatibility issue with current builds (regardless of WPA2 or WPA3).

We've also ordered an Intel AX210 card to upgrade another Win10 PC to use WPA3. Once that card arrives, those two PCs will be transistioned to WPA3-EAP on the Linksys/Marvel running the latest build.

IIRC, the Netgear/Broadcomm R7000 devices did not show WPA3 as an option through at least Feb. 2021 builds.

I was just curious about WPA3 on Qualcomm Atheros since I'm toying with the possibility of x86-64 (which I understand only supports Atheros wifi) as well as a broken Netgear/Atheros R9000 (qca9984 radios, I think) that I've ordered and hope to resurrect.

EDIT:
Oh my! After some Windows updates (but seemingly not to the wifi driver itself), an older HP laptop with Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN radio just started working with WPA3-EAP! WPA3 Enterprise with CCMP-128 (AES) is the only option selected on the particular vlan that it's now on. Win10 reports the Intel driver date as 4/30/2015 (version 15.18.0.1). Is this even possible? Since this apparently works with WPA3-EAP, I guess a whole bunch of others will probably work too! I'll test some even older radios to confirm... Also, this is on r44048 (since I already had that running WPA3-only) but I expect same on current build.

Xiaomi Mi A3 Android smartphone looks like it is supporting WPA3 on both the 2,4 GHz and 5GHz bands:
WPA3 (SAE Transition Mode).

Old iPhone SE doesn't tell much of anything.

Nokia 7.2 says WPA3, but no details.

The Xiaomi is very very chatty, btw. When I sleep many of its DNS requests get blocked by PiHole.
The Nokia phone is not like that at all. Both Android Zero.

I haven't had any luck with WPA3 on Android yet, but latest tested was Blu G5 on Android 9 with 2.4G only. I guess the OS must be the final hurdle to WPA3 support. If I could get the Android devices onboard, I think I'd be able to switch to WPA3 completely!

Although the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 AGN radio with Intel 4/30/2015 (version 15.18.0.1) driver is working well with WPA3-EAP, a very similar Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 AGN radio with Microsoft 1/23/2013 (version 15.4.1.1) driver fails to connect with WPA3-EAP, where Win10 reports: "Can't connect to this network" on both 5G and 2.4G. I'll investigate further to see if there's an Intel branded driver instead of Microsoft for the 6200, but if not then the dividing line between Intel radios that support WPA3 and those that don't seems to be right in that 2013-2015 timeline.

And almost back on topic, I've found that a Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 Wireless Network Adapter client works fine with WPA3-EAP on both 2.4 and 5 G on another Win10 PC with Microsoft 3/26/2016 driver version 3.0.2.201 Smile

Sure enough, it turns out that Android 10 and up clients have baked in support for WPA3, but Android 9 and down don't. I did some digging and couldn't find any way to add it, either. Well... other than this: https://source.android.com/devices/tech/connect/wifi-wpa3-owe

On the Win10Pro PC (Lenovo) client front, oddly an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8265 with Intel driver date 2021/1/10 (version 20.70.21.2) CANNOT connect to WPA3-EAP (although WPA2-EAP works fine). This is confusing!

Question: On the subject of old wifi NICs seemingly compatible with WPA3, I had a D-Link DIR-601-A1 router, apparently with Atheros AR9285 wifi NIC per the Supported_Devices page. I recently retired it and tossed it into far-offsite storage because it couldn't boot any dd-wrt build after r42681 of 03-13-2020. Does anyone know if that Atheros wifi card is removable from that D-Link router, and/or whether it might be usable as a supported Atheros wifi card in my stalled x86-64 project?

looks non removable https://deviwiki.com/wiki/D-Link_DIR-601_rev_A1

if it was, and if its 3.3v, it would work in ur x86-64 system, (or if u have a capable 5v nic for the x86 if the card was to be 5v)

Thanks! It sure does look non-removable. Oh well, I guess I should just pry open my wallet and get something proper for it.
