On step 4 the above link states - In the Server interfaces field, select the LAN adapter of your computer and the pic shows - 192.168.1.5 - Intel Ethernet...
But in my case, I show
192.168.1.10 - Intel Ethernet... the IP that I set in step 3
Then, I powered off the router, powered it back on, waited for power to turn white from orange and then hit PUT. As soon as I did that the Server Interface field auto changes to - 127.0.0.1 - Software Loopback Interface.
And nothing happens..
What am I doing wrong?
The only good thing that happened is that my router didn't get bricked.

Set it to bind to the proper interface in the settings. Also, use tftpd32 v4.52 32-bit with 1024 anticipation window set. That's generally what I do when I set up to TFTP. At least I am presuming you are using tftpd32 / tftpd64 and not the tftp2.exe or the Linksys tftp client... _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

I'm using the client mentioned in netgear link - TFTP64.
Questions
Which address should I bind to in Settings?
Is the link incorrect when it sets IP to 192.168.1.10 but shows 192.168.1.5 in the diagram for Server Interface? I mean should Server Interface IP match the IP that I set in Step 3?
Am I correct in connecting laptop to Ethernet Port?
Should I wait for power light to change from Amber before hitting PUT?
What are the gotchas that i should be aware of? have never done this before

If tftpd32 / tftpd64 shows 192.168.1.10 in the selectable interfaces, then that is the one you use. You have to use the IP address of your laptop, whatever it is. I always go into the actual settings rather than use the drop-down that will switch back to 127.0.0.1 and bind it to the ethernet adapter's IP address of the laptop or pc I am using to tftp the file with.

Questions
Isn't the link in the article incorrect when it sets IP to 192.168.1.10 but shows 192.168.1.5 in the diagram for Server Interface?
Am I correct in connecting laptop to Ethernet Port?
Should I wait for power light to change from Amber before hitting PUT? or should I hit PUT as soon as I see Amber light?
1. the link is correct, as mentioned, you should use 192.168.1.10 if you have set that IP on laptop.
KP69 has rightly guided you. please follow steps mentioned.
2. Yes it needs to connect to Ethernet port on laptop
3. When you power on router keep reset button pressed till power light changes from Amber to white flashing then hit put button.
Just remember, when you switch of router the laptop ethernet will show disconnected so your tftp client halls back to 127.0.0.1. You can select it back to 192.168.1.10 just before you hit put button

Not sure how you can state that the link is correct. It obviously isn't.
Look at step 3(d)(i) and then the picture under 4(d) that shows a different IP for Server Interface.
FFS man do not look at the pictures or screenshots for valid information, and both articles are "correct".
The Ethernet adapter's IP does not absolutely have to be .10 btw.
That's for you who knows this stuff, not for people who look at each step closely and then follow.
The article I referenced does not mention anything about keeping reset button pressed so I wasn't doing that and wasn't even aware that it still needed to be done while using TFTP client.
