and where is your speed problem now?

according to your other forum posts your tests with build r41813 were not better either

Rolling Eyes

I did mention in the above thread that, after playing around with settings, I was getting a good speed on 5GHz which is what most of my devices are connected to. I didn't run a iperf after the performance improvement.

Am now getting, at the same location in the house

5GHz - 400-425 DL/375-400 UL on wifi

2.4GHz - 70-80 DL/110-120 UL

i see 25mbit difference in two tests 1 year apart
I'll let that pass as a tolerance, no one is saying that your neighbors are still using the same channels and the interference is 100% identical.

next time don't start such a bullshite thread about "performance issues" where we have to pull everything out of your nose in 3 pages

you might as well write "wifi is a bit slower" and then post 2 tests which were done one after the other so we can compare them

and that is why it's still called slow. perhaps you're missing the point here so let me try and explain.

the older iperf tests were done to show the slow speed. I started off with
--
From 6 ft away from router, I get the following wifi speeds
5GHz - 330/220
2.4GHz - 130/180
on Gb Fios
---
and after settings changes I ended up with

5GHz - 400-425 DL/375-400 UL on wifi
2.4GHz - 70-80 DL/110-120 UL

So, you're comparing older iperf tests with slow performance with this recent iperf test with slow performance. I do not have iperf test results after speed improvement.

Hope that clears the confusion.

yes but i have an actual iperf3 test with the intel 8265 and build r46177

Code:
-R -P 4 -t 60

[SUM]   0.00-60.03  sec  4.37 GBytes   626 Mbits/sec   27             sender
[SUM]   0.00-60.00  sec  4.36 GBytes   624 Mbits/sec                  receiver

Code:
-P4 -t 60
[SUM]   0.00-60.00  sec  3.51 GBytes   503 Mbits/sec  134             sender
[SUM]   0.00-60.01  sec  3.50 GBytes   501 Mbits/sec                  receiver

Oh that could very be. I'm not blaming the build. All I'm saying is that my wifi speed has gone down and that's why I provided my settings and iperf results to see what tweaks can be done. These settings had worked well with the older build.

Did you see anything that jumps out in Settings?

5Ghz disable Multi User Beamforming

i would try the vanilla firmware..

-antenna gain i have 0 if im not wrong...
-Automatic Power save - must be set to disable
-i still use bacon interval 100 as 101 was causing troubles
-Sensitivity Range (ACK Timing) must be 500... I use 900, your value of 3150 is way too much..

protection mode - rst/cts is set to disabled, as well RTS threshold too (disable)

you can try out everything

my personal settings:

vanilla firmware
disable Multi User Beamforming
antenna gain 0
disable U-APSD
ACK Timing 900

RTS/CTS + RTS Threshold can also be deactivated (for testing)

well no idea what you have
these are good values and so far the best you have posted here
besides WLAN is not a constant, the throughput depends on the interference (which you can't control) as said before

apparently you do not know how fast it was before or you would have posted the values long ago

Yes, unfortunately I don't have those from r41813 after it was performing well.

going by speedtest.
On r4813 - 5GHz - 400-425 DL/375-400 UL on wifi
at same spot in house, I'm currently getting 325-350 DL/275-300 UL

the speedtest above says 450mbit download but only with multiple streams
with one stream you measured "only" 350mbit
apart from that 10sec runtime is too short for a test

probably it's more to do with your client if there are significant differences between single and multistream
did you disable the power management on the card?

as i said i have an intel 8265 myself (running with the linux driver)

30sec single stream:

by the way, these are real measurements WLAN <--> Router <--> LAN

Not sure if this is related but Outlook for windows and Windows Updates cannot connect to server any more.

Get error - 0x800704cf for Outlook
Win Update error - cannot connect to server

Since I need a stable network for next week, perhaps it might be better if I downgrade to r41813 by just going to Admin->Firmware Upgrade and selecting the bin file of r41813.

I made a backup of old configuration and can restore it.

Do you think I need to run nvram erase && reboot after I downgrade to r41813?

Totally pointless to downgrade, but yes hard reset or nvram erase as a jump to r41813 is over two years.

fix your windows?

I don't think your problem has anything to do with the router firmware.
There are certainly some windows users here with an r7800 and they have not reported anything like this so far.

i doubt that build r41813 is somehow more stable than r46177

but it's 2 years old and has plenty of security problems
so no performance issues but plenty security issues Laughing Laughing

but as you like, just donwgrade to r41813 and restore your nvram backup = then this nasty problem is also solved

if there are any problems, you can always reset the router to factory default

Well said about security issues. Smile

The only reason I was going back to 41813 is because that's what I had and can restore from backup config settings.

Could be a coincidence that perhaps Windows updates and firmware upgrade happened around the same time over the weekend.
