EA8500: C-C-C-C-C-Combo Breaker! Flash upgrade #142 no signs of life after cold boot, hard reset, 3x power toggle.
This is your warning. Prepare for soft brick land and a serial recovery. File size: 94208 bytes larger than previous build.
EDIT: EA8500 is not soft bricked at all, only did not disconnect the normal network layout (switch).
Connected directly to old PC with Intel 82567V-2 Gigabit Ethernet the webUI immediately appears.
The wireless tab is completely missing from r46130 both FW type and of course r46069 is all good.
Never figured out the timing on the 3x power toggle method to switch partitions, only wasted time.

Main router R7800 doesn't boot properly and rebooting or resetting (button) doesn't give me access. Only leds for the connected LAN ports flash and the power led is mostly white, but sometimes turns to red.
This has never happened to me before with this router.
I was in the shower when the upgrade process took place ...
I have a second spare R7800 connected to the same modem for tests of two NASses backing up over the internet. So that's how I am online now and hopefully get some suggestions as to how to get out of this quandary.
I have used TFTP many times on a WZR-HP-G300NH, but never on this router.
TFTP is easy with the R7800
Is also very very difficult to brick the router.
Quote:
1 Turn off the power, push and hold the reset button (in a hole on backside) with a pin
2 While still holding the reset button, turn on the power, and the power led starts flashing white (after it first flashes orange for a while)
3 Release the reset button after the power led flashes white (for at least 10 times), immediately execute the tftp command on your computer. (Note: There is no requirement to wait for 10 flashes although Netgear apparently says that in official advice. You can release the button once it starts to flash white (after the orange flashing if over).)
4 The power led will stop flashing if you succeeded in transferring the image, and the router reboots rather quickly with the new firmware.

TFTP:d to Netgear Stock f/w xxxx.74 which I had far-sightedly downloaded in october 2020.
TFTP didn't take at first. Many tries. Then used a switch in between, turned off Linux firewall and powered up with reset button pressed and kept it down for a long time.
Somehow like that. Then it suddenly took before I realized and finished, too.
Then Netgear started bothering with silly questions about my brother and sister etc.
Can't get around those
Next quickly on to dd-wrt, familiar grounds ....
Need to download the right f/w for that.
I can't imagine how the dd-wrt f/w update could have been interrupted as there was nobody here besides me and I was in the shower. Certainly lasted the time needed for dd-wrt to boot, I would think.
Odd that it would soft-brick like that all of a sudden.

Sorry most of this I don't really understand
press and hold the reset button
then switch on the router and wait until the power LED flashes white
then start tftp
you don't need to flash the netgear stock firmware either
you can flash the factory-to-ddwrt.img right away

OK, I didn't know that. It's probably in the instructions somewhere, I may even have seen it some time before, but then I do know this router is very hard to brick ...

The upgrade from factory f/w to factory-to-ddwrt_R7800_r46130.img didn't succeed for some reason. It asked about upgrading to an older version, but seemed ok with that. It just kept booting, flashing four red lights at long intervals.
So then I tftp:d factory-to-ddwrt_R7800_r46130.img directly.
No dice. Unresponsive even after a power off.

TFTP:d 46069 as you suggested and hey presto ...
Success. The size of the f/w is hardly any bigger, just about 100 kB.
I will have to suppress my upgrading urge until more reports about R7800 on 46130 ...
Some seem to be ok on r7800 with 46130.
Thanks!
