So it seems that it disables SFE when I set up DHCPD for an isolated secondary WLAN.

Is that an expected behavior?

Long story short, I'm trying to setup a 2.4GHz secondary network so my shady, outdated Chinese IoT devices connect to. I managed to do so with ease, but I noticed a considerable hit on my network speed on other machines on the main network.
Upon further inspection, I noticed SFE was off. So I enabled it. Then after a couple of seconds, it turns off on itself.

Unfortunately yes that is intended behaviour.

According to the developer SFE can cause routing trouble when you have more than one interface like you have.

You can manually start SFE from the command line with:

I have the same setup as you with an unbridged interface for my IoT.

I did once enable SFE to test and it seems to keep working but as I do not need it (I am running this on an R7800 which can get almost gigabit without SFE) I disabled SFE again.

According to the developer SFE can cause routing trouble when you have more than one interface like you have.

You can manually start SFE from the command line with:

startservice sfe


I have the same setup as you with an unbridged interface for my IoT.

I did once enable SFE to test and it seems to keep working but as I do not need it (I am running this on an R7800 which can get almost gigabit without SFE) I disabled SFE again.

I just started the service manually as you said, and it seems to have indeed started, even though still shows as "Disabled" on the radio button.

I'll keep on the lookout to see if I experience any issues by keeping it enabled.
But what would actually be a "routing trouble"? What should I experience to say "oh, it's a routing issue"?
Everything seems to be working for now (IoT devices are responding, downloads are working, streams are streaming etc)

It is what the developer reported.

SFE works at the packet level so I can imagine packets are going to the wrong interface.

As most traffic is TCP that should be corrected but if that happens a lot you will experience slow down.

But it is just my guess.
