I get a time out once I select factory-to ddwrt.bin
time out
I follow these steps
2: You will need to statically assign your computer an IP address of 192.168.0.2 (255.255.255.0).
select the file upload
am I missing a step ?
or is it due to running latest d-link firmware
I tried to downgrade to 1.01 thru factory default gate way select 1.01 it was saying cant downgrade
You will likely have to use the D-Link Emergency Room to downgrade / flash the router. There is an issue with later versions of Internet Explorer, and somewhere in the forum, there is a post about a workaround for this to get Emergency Room to comply that I don't have bookmarked and can't seem to find via Google _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Press and hold the reset button on the router. While keeping that pressed, pull the power cable out and insert it back after 5-10 seconds.
Now let go of the reset button. Wait for about a minute or two and you will see the LEDs blinking .
Assign your computer an IP address of 192.168.0.2 manually. You have to do this by going in the network settings and setting it as ‘manual’. Connect a network cable from your WAN port on the router to the Ethernet port on computer.
Now open Firefox browser and goto http://192.168.0.1. This is the IP of your router and 192.168.0.2 is the IP of your computer.
. Hold the reset button down.
. While still holding the reset button down, press the power button (to turn the router off) for 5 seconds and then press the button again to turn the router on while still holding down the button. You can also pull the power plug out and back in instead of using the power button.
. Wait 10 seconds and then release. Allow about 90 seconds for the router to boot. The power LED will blink red.
4. You will need to statically assign your computer an IP address of 192.168.0.2 (255.255.255.0).
5. Open Internet Explorer (do not use chrome, firefox, or edge). Go to http://192.168.0.1. The D-Link recovery page will appear. If it doesn't, you did not do the crash recovery properly. Repeat the process.
6. Browse to factory-to-ddwrt.bin file and click Upload.
7. Upgrade process should take 3-5 minutes.
8. When the success page appears, close your browser.
9. Change your IP settings on your computer to either DHCP or statically assign to 192.168.1.xxx (255.255.255.0). The default IP of the router will be 192.168.1.1.
10. Open Internet Explorer and enter 192.168.1.1. DD-WRT will now be installed. You will be prompted to create a username and password.
Internet Explorer works sometimes however users have reported that FF has better results and works 100% of the time. For IE, lower the IE security settings, add the 192.168.0.1 or .50 to the trusted sites under "sites" in security tab of the Internet Options.
