Just came in a bit ago ...been all day picking up limbs from parents backyard. Crazy ice we got in October is really weird shit.

Yep, there is no other solution to the asterisk issue and its not an issue since these devices if they dont have a hostname set, will show up as asterisk, dnsmaq is flexible enough to do the job however, or set a hostnme on these devices and ensure they are sent.
You might be able to use a hosts file for the upstream router's IP, but I doubt you can use a static lease to resolve that part of this issue. _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
